Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a juicy one... Our own Latauro, he of Downunder royalty, sent us a report where it seems that Vice Chairman of Marvel, Peter Cuneo, was doing a radio interview very recently where he dropped the following bomb about the (direct to video) HULK sequel:

Quote:
I just got this sent in from regular scooper "Lennox". Vice Chairman of Marvel, Peter Cuneo was being interviewed by AOL's Motley Fool Radio Team (yikes... who exactly signed off on that name?) and said that Bana has pulled out of the sequel.

Strange... I was fairly sure that Bana was contracted for at least one more SMASH. Maybe he was only contracted for a theatrical sequel. According to Mr Cuneo, the Artist Forever Known As Poider pulled out of the film when he discovered it was going to be direct-to-DVD.

Says Cuneo, "The Hulk did $250 million worldwide box office, which is a huge box office, and as you may recall, we had tremendous success with our toy line, which was a complete sell-out, over $100 million worldwide."

Great. So who's going to play Bruce? He claims David Duchovny will take over the role, as DD is a huge fan of Hulk. (Note: calling him DD was a ploy to suggest he might end up in another Marvel franchise... okay, now I'm making it up.)

David Duchovny as Bruce Banner? Yeah, I can see it. If I squint hard enough.

Actually, Duchovny might be more accurate to the comic book version of Bruce Banner than Bana was... This being Direct-To-Video doesn't inspire confidence on my part, however I still really like David Duchovny and am rather curious about seeing him in the purple pants. What about you?

He's a very underrated actor IMO. For me he was one of the only good things about Troy.

Why would they make the Hulk Direct to DVD? THat's stupid. It still has potential to be good. Entice Bana to do the role again and make the movie right this time.

the first one was terrible. they shouldn't even be considering a sequel.

Bana was the only reason I even saw the first one. After seeing him in Chopper I was convinced that he is indeed an awesome actor.

HULK 2 story BS!

Hey folks, Harry here... Just got off the phone with Avi Arad - literally right after his assistant said, "I've got Avi Arad for you," and Avi said, "Hello," I said - "Avi, you're not doing a direct to video HULK sequel are you?" And we started laughing. I've no doubt that Latauro heard what he heard, but man... If you know Avi Arad - he 100% loves THE HULK. He's incredibly proud of the film, the performances and the direction. And frankly - this is one of the ones where Avi and I see eye to eye - which isn't a given by any means. We still verbally spar about that terrible FANTASTIC FOUR movie - ahem. BUT - I love THE HULK.

So - what is happening with HULK? Well, MARVEL is going to make the second one themselves with Universal distributing it... so this will be a Marvel production outside of the Paramount distribution deal that they set up last year. Right now, Avi is talking to various directors and writers and he intends to make a direct sequel... not a reboot. He feels that the HULK was a bit too big, so the big green behemoth will be not so Joseph Young of Africa. He's very excited, as always, about the Emerald Ass-Kicker, and at this point there is NO recasting in place or planned. So - there ya go. He also promises that we're going to have a helluva story that he'll be sending me in a couple of hours for SPIDER-MAN so stay tuned TRUE BELIEVERS!

I like to live under the assumption that Fantastic Four was never made. And I was talking only in context of the Hulk Sequel.

there was nothing at all wrong with the fantastic four...sure they had change dooms origin, but would they really have the time to show everything and still have the big battle?

I thought it was decent when I saw it, but I have no desire to ever see it again. I'd go see a sequel.
