Also, if Jason Siegel's script said that Lilly was going to announce her pregnancy and she actually announced the death of his dad, wouldn't Siegel be like, "what? hey, you're off script."

My wife and I noticed the countdown a few months ago when we were watching reruns. It was actually a lot of fun, as it made me forget how the episode ended. So the ending became a surprise all over again. Which was great.

Not sure I buy that Jason didn't know. That doesn't make seem to make sense. I need to look that up.

I love this show.

Oh, okay. Yeah, Jason didn't know the line. But the description in that previous post is weird. I didn't understand what it was saying. I thought it was implying that Jason WROTE that script, not that his copy of the script didn't have the final line. Here's Jason and Alyson talking about it (which clarified things for me):

Segel revealed there was a lot of work by the HIMYM producers to keep this plot turn under wraps, explaining, “In the script we received, the last scene was, ‘Marshall, I’m pregnant.’ And then they told us on the day, ‘No, that’s not what’s happening.’ And they gave us the alternate pages.”

Both Segel and Alyson Hannigan spoke about Segel’s decision to not know what Hannigan’s exact lines were in that scene. As Segel put it, “I didn’t want to know what she was going to say to me when she got out of that cab.” Hannigan recalled asking, “‘Jason are, you sure?’ I was like, ‘I’m going to take some pauses and okay, the last word [for your cue] is ‘it.” I was like, ‘I don’t say ‘it’ any other time.’”

Said Segel, “I had no idea what [Hannigan] was going to say to me. I knew the overall premise, but she came out and she was already crying and it was so heartbreaking and it made acting very easy. All I had to do was react in that scene. I didn’t have to dig very deep.”

Amazingly, only one take of that powerful scene was filmed. Hannigan recalled asking the director and producers, “‘Are you sure? We should probably do it again!’ But they were like, ‘It’s perfect!’”

That's actually really cool.

Have I mentioned how much I love this show?

Have you guys ever seen this?

Quote:

In July 2011, something strange happened on a rerun of How I Met Your Mother. Although the episode airing in syndication had been shot in 2006, a poster in one of the scenes was eerily modern: It was pushing Bad Teacher, a movie that had been in theaters only a few weeks. Did Neil Patrick Harris have a time machine? The bizarrely prescient ad was the work of SeamBI, a company that has craftily elevated the practice of product placement by digitally inserting new ads into old scenes of syndicated shows. Currently, the company tends to insert posters and billboards as set dressing, but its vision doesn’t end there. SeamBI plans to slice and dice markets so that your television does what the Web has been doing for years—help advertisers target very specific geographic areas. Viewers in New York, for instance, might see a Manhattan-based billboard on an old sitcom, while Delaware viewers could see a completely different one while watching the exact same show.As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, the scheme makes syndicated shows even more profitable, with How I Met Your Mother opening the floodgates to a whole new world. While the idea of seeing June Cleaver opening up a fridge full of Coke Zero or the Fonz leaning up against a poster for The Hangover 3 still seems laughable, SeamBI knows it’s just around the corner.

Yuck.

I don't have a problem with the Gatorade banner. Gatorade existed when the episode was filmed and it exists now.

And I don't know that I have a problem with adding in the adverts to be market specific.

But I really hate the idea of fucking with time/continuity. I do not like the idea of putting modern ads in period shows, even if the difference is a matter of a year or two. Advertising a movie that hasn't come out yet on a show that takes place in the '50s, '60s or even in 2009 is gross.

I wonder if we'll be seeing Kashi GoLean on Jerry Seinfeld's kitchen shelf.

I thought the first half hour was horrible, but they saved it on the back half.

The only thing I didn't like was the pit thing.

Yeah. I liked it in theory. I could see how it floated well in the writer's room. The execution was off and ultimately a sorta hollow metaphor that didn't need the over explanation. But it worked in the larger context of the show, since the show is always doing that kind of thing.

That was the whole first half hour. If you remove the "pit thing" what is left?

I've been pretty quick to highlight this show's failings and even I thought the pit thing was fine.

I thought it was a little cheesy. Not even close to the worst thing this show has done, but relative to the rest of the episode it was a bit stupid.

Best episode of the season. Agreed, on the pit being a little over the top. But, didn't detract too much from the show.

The Seth Green "hackmigos" bits were great. That guy is ageless.

I really liked the celeb cameos in this one. Seth especially.
