i'm watching part of this one episode on HBO (in this one Al Pacino's character dies and this guy is praying for him in Yiddish i beleive, if not Hebrew...or i'm just way off and dunno anything, but he is praying for him)...it seems interesting....but the scene with Meryl Streep in this same episode and her dying friend/son/whatever and the black Angel (Emma Thompson) was just WIERD...the acting in that scene was basically satyrical of...something...i just couldn't place it. I know this is supposed to be a pretty heavy and serious drama, and the rest of the acting in the episode was pretty good...but that one scene was just...wierd...i dunno

any thoughts on the series ?

Angels In America was originally a two part play written by Tony Kushner. It's meant to be at the same time high comedy and tragedy, which would account for the weird scenes in the television version, which I haven't seen. It won two Tony's for its run on Broadway, and the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Very nice, but I simply didn't get the big final Angels heaven scene in the end.

There were times when it was really obvious that the script was written for a play, not a miniseries.

It's a damn good series that. Louis is a bit annoying though

You really should read it, the language is just amazing. I caught myself becoming just awestruck at a few parts in Millenium Approaches.

The series is well done.

The play turned into one of my favorites after we discussed it in class a few semesters ago. It's right up there with 'Death of a salesman' or 'A long day's journey into night'. Fantasic what Kushner created and it's at least as relevant today as it was when it was first staged - 1991 I think). I recommend reading it first and then watching the series (some scenes seem less "weird" when you read them first and think about how someone could act them out in a movie).

I think it's very relevant today. Once again we are in an ultra-conservative political climate, with many praying for angels but finding only demons.

I love that Kushner had the balls to make it so grandiose and so funny at the same time. A magnificent work.

The series is great. You have to see it from the beginning. Pacino was playing Roy Cohn...a huge asshole who screwed everyone over. One of his victims comes to visit him (as a ghost) on his death bed. Start from the beginning.

The series does have some really weird stuff going on. THe angel scenes are strannnnggggeeeee. :?
