I think almost every studio in hollywood makes movies in a different way now. I think they set out to make 2 versions of the film. the theater version & the "SPECIAL UNRATED DIRECTORS SUPER VISIONARY CUT."
and it's OUR FAULT !
As the moviegoing public we go see almost anything in the theater, I mean Shall We Dance has made $42,000,000.00 ! So they aim at the lowest common denominator. THEN when it's DVD time they "art it up" and make it all new & improved. AND WE FALL FOR THIS EVERY TIME !!
take for example: ALIEN VS PREDATOR. we all knew it was going to SUCK being PG-13 & all. BUT IT STILL MADE 80 million+
Now the "UNTATED RATED DIRECTOR'S CUT" with all the blood & gore fans of the franchises demanded will be released next year. they are going to not only add like 45 min, but they are going to RECUT the film.
We need to stop going to the theater to see SHIT BOMBS. We need to waint the 4 lousy months & get the good stuff on DVD.

I've stopped going to the theaters period. For two people, it was costing me $25 including a couple Cokes and Twizzlers. I could buy the DVD for less than that and buy plenty of snacks too.
Theater owners have now priced themselves into irrelevance. Add to it inconsiderate people with their cell phones and bratty kids kicking your seat, and there you have plenty of reasons not to go see a movie.

We all need our own personal screening rooms.
I'm going to build mine next to the solarium.

someone actually explained to me why movie theatres charge so much for concessions and tickets...basically they make no money off of the actual ticket sales...so they must make revenue by charging you 8 bucks for popcorn....
i dont see this as a big deal..american pie 123 uncut, badder santa, road trip uncut..so on..theres an extra 1.5 seconds of shit or maybe one scene with a 2 second tit flash and they try to make a big deal out of it, making us buyers think its now like a porno or something

No, it's not those that I'm talking about. It's the "Director's Cuts" not the unrated version that has 7 more seconds of some chick's tit. AVP, Hellboy, Daredevil, and even LOTR: Return OF The King all have over 1/2 hour of "Restored" footage. Why not just put the best possible cut of the film out to begin with ? Because if you listen to the Director's commentary tracks (as I do) you will find 80% of them say somethign along the lines of "I wish this was the version you saw in the theater." Even older movies like T2, Almost Famous & Hannible made major changes that affected character development and the plot.

I don't really go. the last three movies I saw were Kill Bill Vol 1, Kill Bill Vol 2, and National Treasure. And I used to go to the movies weekley, but now I just wait the 4-6 months for the bells & horns version on DVD. I've invested in a decent tv dvd & sound system, and all is good.

ok i see..but it pisses me off when i hear someone saying..(for example)..ohh, i cant wait to see BADDER santa..im always like..its absoultely no different than bad santa..people get tied into buying these movies thinkin theyre gonna gt all these extra dirty scenes and get nothing..and now it happnes with every single fuckin raunchy-comedy flick out there..all because of fuckin uncut american pie (which had a total of 30 seconds of extras put in)..

Well, theartical cuts are under a lot of constraints and pressures from the movie studio. They're often slashed due to pacing (shorter movies mean more showings per day, meaning more potential ticket sales) and content (there's the big push towards a PG-13 rating versus R and, of course, R verses NC-17, because it broadens your potential audience). Directors have a lot more creative control over a DVD version because studios aren't relying on those sales for the vast majority of their revenue and depending on an insanely fickle moviegoing public, but rather the smaller segment of more hardcore movie fans that are willing to buy the DVD.
