i've never really been that interested in the murder mystery genre, i suppose because i always see cheap paperbacks in garage sales and at my grandma's house and have sadly closed my mind to it all. needless to say, i've never really given them a chance. over thanksgiving, visiting my grandma, i had forgotten to bring a book, so i just pulled a thin agatha christie novel from her shelf. 'and then there were none (aka ten little indians)'
i actually really enjoyed this book. a very light read, but packed with entertainment and suspense. granted, the murderer was kind of spelled out to me, christie leaves it a bit uncertain until the last two pages. a fun way to end a story.
anyone a fan? i might start getting into mystery novels for light reading in the future.

I won't pretend they're the greatest books ever written or anything (they're definitely on the "light" side), but I really got into these a few years ago and just devoured them. The ones with Poirot are (IMHO) the best.

heh, well i never said they had any literary merit (kind of the whole reason i never felt i needed to pick them up in the first place). they are, however, nice little books to read if you just want to relax for a day or so. i'd put them in the same guilty pleasure column that i put csi and the beastie boys in.

I would definitely recommend them as light reading...and I'm sorry if you thought I was criticizing you or something--not at all! If you want to talk about guilty pleasures, I'll admit to reading Forgotten Realms novels.
