Alright, so I think Steve Martin is one of the few actors alive who can pull this off properly, and I like the casting of Kevin Kline.

However, when I first saw previews for this I wondered, why the hell didn't they cast Geoffrey Rush? He was brilliant playing Peter Sellers, wouldn't that be the obvious choice? Anyone know if he was pursued and just turned it down?

It's a completely unnecessary remake, but when has that stopped Hollywood?

I agree with you on Martin, but again, there's no need for this movie.

I think the hardest I've ever laughed while watching a movie was Peter Sellers fighting his Asian "assistant" in slow-motion and demolishing his apartment in the process.

thats exactly how i feel, a movie like king kong i can see remaking, the visual effects have progressed light years since 79-80, but remaking for the sake of remaking is never a good idea to me

As already said, completely unnecessary. No one can rival Sellers. The in the original when he plays the violin and says "Better than ever."

Oh, I'm with you all. There's no need for the movie. I'm just curious if Rush may have turned it down because he believed the same and had too much respect for Sellers.

I saw the preview last night for the first time. I thought it looked quite funny, I'll probably go and see it

I am a HUGE Steve Martin fan...and agree that he could probably pull something like this off...but he has been dry recently.

I have missed his last few movies...when was his last good one?

It's been a while.

Steve Martin is NOT funny. He may have been in the 80's, but for the last 15 years he's box office poison and just unwatchable. Cheaper By the Dozen? He's an idiot and this movie will tank.

this is a bad idea

and

id be willing to bet geoffrey rush was not approached simply because if you are going to try something like this hollywood needs a big name replacing sellers

also i have a feeling rush has too much respect for sellers, portraying him is one thing taking on his role is another.

I really think that Steve Martin sucks...I guess because he has a very "american" humor. The british humor is so much better.

I think Martin is funny even when he doesn't try. I laugh when I see his bad movies but the problem is they are bad and just aren't the caliber flick he used to make... he has some classics:

The Jerk, Man with two brains, THREE AMIGOS!, Roxanne, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Dirt Rotten Scoundrels, My Blue Heaven, LA Story, Leap of Faith, Mixed Nuts, the Father of the Brides (Which for chicks flicks, Martin is great in them)...etc..
