I don't know how many of you Cinema Snobs are out there, but do you love this guy's movies? I saw only one, City Lights, in one of my film classes. I never felt bored watching it. I don't know. I'm happy to see AFI bumped it up all the way to number 11 on their greatest of all time list. To me it's the greatest love story ever told right next to Eternal Sunshine.
Thought about asking for a couple for christmas. What do you say, The Goldrush and Modern Times?

Crescendo is the right word for the end of City Lights. I love that ending.
When they talked about it on one of those AFI specials, they had Jack Lemmon describing the ending in an interview and he was literally in tears. An 80 year-old man, one of our finest film actors, recalling the first time he saw a movie as a child, and it still brought him to tears.

I've seen city lights and modern times, and while i had a good time watching both (CL more than MT), I'd be lying if i said i wanted to explore more Chaplin.

The Gold Rush is my favorite and his best in my opinion.
Anyone who likes Chaplin should see Monsieur Verdoux. It's a lost classic.
