Silver Surfer is my favorite comic character and I'm glad that a movie is finally being made.
Most of SS exploits take place in the far reaches of space - can that translate into a movie with out too much boredom?
Galactus as the main villian is true to SS's orgins, but can a 30 foot tall main character translate well into a movie.
I hope the movie relays the fact that SS is the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe (sorry Adam Warlock, but face it, no one really likes you) and Galactus is equally as powerful. It makes my wonder if one of the coolest villians and most powerful entity in the Marvel Universe, Thanos, will ever see the big screen. Who knows, maybe he will show up in Ironman if he isn't in FF or SS.

Galactus >>> Silver Surfer. I mean, he GAVE him his power. Also Thanos was only the strongest character when he had that infinity gauntlet. That was sooo awesome. Also, I think Adam Warlock is plenty cooler than the surfer. And then theres the Living Tribunal, The Beyonder, etc who are all debatably
more mowerful than Norrin. Also, Shuma-Gorath is my favorite extraterrestrial entity, and as I recall, is powerful as all hell too
Imagine if 5 years from now they started on an infinity gauntlet storyline, after they made all the individual superhero movies? I would DIE.

I could see this being pretty difficult to pull off unless you've got the top effects crews working on it, and get a really good script and director. There would clearly be a lot of CG involved, and that can create problems in terms of crafting a good story and getting good performances (see Star Wars: Episodes I and II...and probably III).

I hope it is more in the Spiderman graphics sense and less in the Hulk graphics sence because Hulk was pretty cheezy.
My favorite Marvel villian is Galactus. I was very disturbed recently when I was reading the George Perez JLA/Avengers books and saw Galactus used as a vessal (he was dead and someone was using his body for a big star base type of place).

Galactus really isnt a villain, he's just misunderstood.

I agree with you.
I remember getting a SS comic one time. I don't really know much about his story or who his enemies are.

The Rock as Norrin? Eeeesh.
I was really hoping they'd put this one off till I finished school so I could write it, but I guess not. (Damn. It's been a dream of mine to see this flick, and an even wilder dream to write it myself.)
Computers Beat Vin Diesel At Surfing Posted: Wednesday July 5th 2006 9:04am Source: PR Inside Author: Garth Franklin
In recent weeks, rumours were filtering around the Net that Vin Diesel could be up for playing The Silver Surfer in "The Fantastic Four 2" which is one of the reasons why his action vehicle "Transit" got canned.
That rumour? Not true says Moviehole. Director Tim Story confirmed that although The Silver Surfer is indeed in the movie, it won't be Vin Diesel playing him - "No truth to it. The Surfer will be a new CGI design being developed especially for the movie. It's going to be incredible".
The Silver Surfer is a galaxy-cruising defender endowed with superhuman strength, who is able to control and direct cosmic energies, with enough force to destroy a city.
That sounds like good news.

This is true. He doesn't mean to eat all those innocent people. He just has a very large appetite, and planets are the only thing that even come close to satisying it.

I don't know if there will ever be a comic book movie on the level of Batman Begins. Perhaps its sequel...
I guess it all depends on what you mean by "comic book" movie. Batman Begins excelled because it rooted itself in reality. Properties like Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four all have a huge fantastical element to them, and its extremely difficult to bring this across and make it believable. There's a certian amount of suspension of disbelief that has to take place in order to make it effective, and a big way to leap that hurdle is to make the characters believable and relatable.
Comic book characters simply cannot get by on "looking cool or having cool powers" anymore. They have to ressonate with us as real people with real problems, emotions, motivations, etc. It's why Spiderman, Xmen, Batman (Begins) have clicked with mainstream audiences.

soooooooo.............
anybody...........
no wonder the cartoon got cut, i was probably the only one that ever saw it..
EDIT
i was just on tv.com
the show actually did end with the first part of a 2 parter which thanos did destroy the universe..i read the show had very high ratings, but there was some legal dispute and fox was no longer allowed to air episodes of ss..so it just ended..

I disagree to an extent. Characters like Spidey and Superman should relate to us, but In the case of Silver Surfer, all they have to do is make him look cool on his surfboard, and make him fuck some shit up in outer space. Same with Ghost Rider, except on a cycle and in the city. Once they bring these bad actors in, delivering bad lines, and trying to hard in the character development department, is when the end up really fucking it up sometimes. Example: see The Hulk.

This is why Batman is the greatest super hero of all time.
