An example of a guy I'm not talking about would be, say, Samuel L Jackson or Morgan Freeman.

Who are some guys or gals who you think have consistently chosen roles that not only suit them, but suit the characters and emotions they play well? Obviously not everybody can hit a homerun everytime, but I think some do better than others in choosing appropriate scripts.

I'm not sure how long my list would be, but some guys I can think of off the top of my head are Benicio Del Toro, John Cusack, Scarlett Johansson (she's done some crap but most of her movies compliment her very well), Kate Winslet and Matt Damon. Some don't like Damon because of his ties with Affleck, but the dude is a really talented actor and usually chooses roles that suit his particular "fast talkin' intellectual" speak.

Anybody else you guys can think of?

Apparently PunkDavid is a huge fan of "Nick of Time" and "Secret Window."

Those are two duds amongst a giant handful of great movies that Depp has done in the past fifteen years. No actor can choose wisely 100% of the time, but Depp is pretty damn close.

I agree with Johnny Depp and Edward Norton.

I'd also cast a vote for Brad Pitt. His movies are pretty lame now, but he had a great stretch during the nineties. Se7en, Fight Club, Seven Years in Tibet, Legends of the Fall, A River Runs Through It, Snatch, Kalifornia, etc...

I agree- he was untouchable only a few years ago. Such a good actor most of the time. These 4 movies should make up for any low spots in his career. Was Born on the Fourth of July any good? I haven't heard much about it.

as crazy as his antics have been lately, watch war of the worlds. the special effects are top notch. he does a good job of playing the father who isnt happy with his divorce though he knows its his fault.

i never saw 4th of july, so i dont know, but overall, i think hes had a very stellar career

he and Tom Hanks were my first thoughts... i also hate nascar, but actually liked Days of Thunder... and Born on thew 4th of July is really good, too... he might be crazy, but he's a genius when it comes to picking movies, especially if youre talking box office too

I liked Days of Thunder. Cocktail is awful.

there can't be too many actors more selective than him.

Daniel Day is definetly up there. The best ever though is John Cazale.

Here is his entire filmography.

The Godfather
The Conversation
The Godfather Part 2
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter

All of them were nominated for best picture. To bad he died, he was an awesome actor.
