The Godfather Pt. II for me. I love one with all my heart, but to watch how the Corleone Empire began and DeNiro speaking Italian and making you really believe he was a young Vito just kills me. Both are amazing, but the parellels between Michael and Vito and the way this film expresses them is just beyond words.

The Godfather is my all time favorite movie. Yeah, it wins.

this is like choosing between two children.

The second one has more of an "epic" feel to it...but I found the Michael - Pentangali - Hyman Roth storyline a bit boring....

I enjoyed the plot in the first one better.

I actually saw part 2 before I saw part 1.

2 gets my vote if only for the DeNiro part of the film. Plus the whole Cuba storyline is really interesting to me.

II, mostly for the flashbacks. De Niro kills in those scenes.

It is pretty close, but Part 2 is just a little bit better. Funny because I really didn't like it the first time I saw it, but it keeps growing on me. Godfather has a much better flow to it overall, and probably more "great" scenes, but 2 has a bigger emotional impact. I think some of the fakeness of the Sonny beating the shit out of Carlo in the first Godfather is the deciding factor. That one scene bugs the hell out of me with the fake punches.

II's scenes with DeNiro are so well done that it's perfect. I love the old-time stuff. Have any of you seen the TV movie where they edit it all together in chronological order? It's weird. I much prefer the way it was done the first time around.

I like that version because it includes additional scenes.

I'm pretty sure you can buy that on DVD now.

The additional scenes are also included on the DVD box set.

I don't think I could really decide which I like better. You might as well ask me which of my kids I like better. I guess if I had a gun to my head I'd say II.

I love the deNiro scenes, but as a movie, Part I seems more solid from start to finish.
