What do you guys think? Ever since The Ring came out, they have been releasing a lot of these kinds of films in America. Some of the ones I like are A Tale of Two sisters and Audition. A couple of other Japanese movies I saw that I liked a lot were Oldboy and Battle Royale. Go check out those last two titles now!

Anyways, does anyone have any recommendations for any good ones? I've also seen The Eye, One Missed Call, Ju-On, Ringu and Suicide Circle.

Ichi the Killer!!!! Not really horror, more Asian mafia with extreme gore. However, it is fantastic.

More often than not, I end up turning them off. I'm glad I forced myself to see the end of Audition though. Some Asian films can be engrossing and well written (eg Oldboy) others can be some of the most tedious films ever made (eg Half of Takishi Miike's movies)

Oldboy and A Tale of Two Sisters are not Japanese. And some of the films you mentioned in your first paragraph have nothing to do with the horror genre. I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, I'm just pointing out.

I find the East Asian horrorwave pretty uninteresting for what Asia has been producing lately. There are lots of modern Asian movies that I love, but none of them (except Audition) can be classified as horrors.

For reference, I hold Wong Kar-wai, Zhang Yimou, Pen-ek Ratanaruang, Takeshi Kitano, Chan-wook Park and Kim Ki-duk over everybody else in modern Asian filmmaking, even though I love some of Miike's stuff as well.

I didn't know they weren't japanese and I'm aware that some of the films I mentioned have nothing to do with horror.

It's not Japanese and not really horror but you have to check out the brilliant Korean movie 'Save The Green Planet'. Unique Masterpiece.
