Finished this in July and still think about it. The ending montage of season four--holy shit.
Spoiler: show
When Chris wakes Michael out of his dream about his brother and tells him to ditch the gun
That was the best season, I think.

when I watch it through, I always think 2 is the best after I watch 2, and then revert back to thinking 4 is the best after I watch 4.

Every time I watch The Wire from season 1 through it amazes me how much better this show is than anything else I've seen, including shows I think very highly of.

About 6 episodes into the first season. I'm really liking what I've seen so far.

I'm also on board for Season 2 being near the top. It's got some of my favorite scenes in the series...

Spoiler: show
Omar testifying at Bird's trial and Nicky's breakdown at the playground right before he plows that hoe come to mind right off the top of my head, although there are more. "The Bunk don't swim" is my favorite line from the season, and I think the closing montage may be the best.

Glad to see more of you getting on board with the Wire.

Every season is great, but I really like 3 and 4 the best. I've seen the series twice, and for me I'd rank 'em as such:

4, 3, 1, 2, 5.

Finished season 1 and watched the first episode of season 2 this morning. Took me about 24 hours to get that far.

Slow down, Chud. Savor the Wire. I know it makes you want to never stop watching, and just stay up for 60 hours to get the whole story. But the brilliance of this show is a limited resource. watch an episode or two a night. Then spend the whole day wondering about Lester, or Stringer, or Nicks girlfriends tits. Absorb it. Let the want rule your day.

I'm sorry. That was rude. What I meant to say is, I'm probably going to watch this whole series before I leave for Europe next week.

I gotta disagree on 2. Great, great moments--for sure:

Spoiler: show
Ziggy with the duck

But it didn't have the resonance, for me, that 3 and 4 did. Maybe I was just more invested in those seasons because they carried the season one narrative. But 2 didn't do it for me. Also, 4 has the best montage.

But yeah, this show is light-years ahead of, truly, anything else I've seen. The depth of character is amazing--I don't know if there's a central character that I can really root against because they go to such lengths to humanize everyone. To put the viewer in a situation where you think, "Yeah, I'd have done that too" after watching a murder--fantastic tv writing. I'm sort of excited to forget it so I can go back and watch it again.
