HBO's 'Wire' tapped for fifth season Cabler renews crime drama
HBO has granted a fifth and final season renewal to David Simon's critically hailed crime drama "The Wire."
After receiving universal raves from critics for the just-premiered fourth season, HBO on Tuesday gave the greenlight to another batch of one-hour episodes. Final cycle will examine the role of the mass media in Baltimore.
Renewal arrives on the heels of a lukewarm reception Sunday for the season-four opener. The 10 p.m. episode drew 1.53 million viewers overall -- off from 2005's third-season premiere, which drew 1.8 million. Lead-in, an airing of theatrical "Fantastic Four," attracted 2.9 million at 8 p.m.
Rest of the 13-episode fourth season rolls out Sundays at 10.
Simon and Nina Kostroff Noble executive produce "The Wire."

So I just finished Season 1, and I just have no clue what will happen in Season 2. The season 1 finale could have been the end of the series, and it would have been perfect.

Is Avon around in 2? How bout Herc and Carver?
Everyone's around, to varying degrees. I think I might even like season 2 more than 1.

So it got picked up for its 5th season, correct? Was that the planned season to end with?
Yes and yes.
Effing Netflix skipped over the last disc of season 3 and sent the next 3 discs on my queue. Now I gotta wait to finish 3, dammit!
I was supposed to get discs 2 and 3 of season 2 in last night, but they did't come. I had to go to several video stores to find them.

In an attempt to be gritty, they didn't cast any of those Angie Harmon/Jill Hennessey types who always seem unrealistically cute for a drug/crime show set in a place like Baltimore. And since the actresses on the show are average-looking down the line, guess what happens? It's like the Lambeau parking lot, any press box or any NESCAC keg party ... the females who do appear on this show end up seeming disproportionately hot by about the fifth episode. Absolutely bizarre. I love when this happens.
I do not find this happening to me. Rhonda is still unattractive, as is the new cop helping Bunk in Season 2. It's said when the hottest woman on the show is either Kima or Nick's girlfriend.

I'm with Simmons on this one.

Really? Rhonda? Beatrice? Ellen Cleghorne as Kima's girlfriend?

Is this the greatest show I've ever seen?
Yes.
Once I finish the last couple discs of Rome, season 3 of The Wire should be up next in my queue. Can't fuckin' wait either. This is easily the best tv series around. The fact that the show is set in my backyard is just icing on the cake
Here's an interesting article that was in The Baltimore Sun a couple of Sundays ago.

While watching The Wire last night, I told my girlfriend that it is the best show on TV, and she looked at me like it was blasphemous. I said that yes, because of Lost's weak Season 2, The Wire took over. Anyone else agree?

I should be able to let you know in a month. Season 2 of Lost is right after season 3 of The Wire in my queue.
So you didn't think the second season of Lost was as good as the first? I enjoyed the first season, but I could see how they were setting things up for some weird shit to happen.

From what I remember, I enjoyed Season 1 a lot more than Season 2, but I haven't seen either in a while, and I've been watching The Wire consistently for the past few weeks. It could be I've just forgotten how much I enjoyed it.
