End of Days (kidding, sort of)

I remember seeing The Day After in highschool; it freaked me out. My history teacher framed it as a possible outcome of the tension between the US and the USSR in the 1980s.

I've always been enraptured (pun very much intended) by these things as well. Probably because of my Christian upbringing and complete fear of the Return of Jesus and His Judgment on my Filthy Soul while growing up.

That said, I have zero desire to see The Omen remake because it looks exactly, exactly like the original, with which there's nothing wrong at all.

Growing up, John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness creeped me the hell out. I haven't seen it since then, however. I wonder how it holds up.

Have you seen The Seventh Sign with Demi Moore? Not a great film, but deals with the end times.

The Exorcist is always a fave, as is Rosemary's Baby.

Of course, you could always go the Kirk Cameron route with those ever so splendid Left Behind films.

Rosemary's Baby scared the crap out of me as a kid. That's a freaky movie. I hate horror and satanic movies to begin with, i had to see that in a film study class in high school and I swear I didn't sleep for two weeks.

Rosemary's Baby is one that could definitely use a remake. Alot of people don't even know about it and it's great. They could have added more of the witchcraft shit in their and some other stuff. In the right hands, it could be brilliant.

If you want to see some truly scary stuff, seek out Christian-made end of the world movies from the 60s and 70s.

edit. holy shit:

http://www.jesus21.com/content/movies/rapture1.html

a thief in the night was the one i was thinking of. my parents let me watch that when i was like 12 and it scared the crap out of me.

I've seen Left Behind, I didn't know they were a series of films. Very interesting... People were just disapearing, and only their clothes were left behind, while all the sinners were left to suffer and stuff. I've never read Revelations, but this movie was supposed to be about what the end of days would be like.

So the new Omen, almost the same exact movie as the old one. As for the topic of scary religous movies the Ninth Gate is another fun if not good one and I surprisingly enjoyed The Order. None of them as good as the previously stated but fun at least.

Was gettin all set up to recommend Ninth Gate until I got to the last post. I've actually had some people tell me they hated this movie, but I enjoyed it enough to watch mutiple times. I kinda wish the Da Vinci Code would've enlisted Pulaski and Depp over Howard and Hanks. Anyway....Ninth Gate = good.

Yeah, Ninth Gate was a good, enjoyable movie. I'll never forget when some buddies and I went to the theartre to see it. One guy falls asleep and right at the scene where the one girl/spectar/lucifer is doing Depp and the background erupts in flames to such a degree that all you can see is this girl gyrating and flames shooting around her body, my buddy wakes up and says, "wha, what in the....the hell is this."

It's actually more about the interpretation of the collected prophecies in the books of Daniel and Revelations. The "rapture" is never even mentioned in the Bible, it's a theory based on different scriptures pulled from here and there. Almost all of the current "end times" prophecies are taken from ideas presented in The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey back in the 70s. The Left Behind series simply fictionalizes the ideas in that book, much in the same way Dan Brown did with The DaVinci Code. Both are horribly written and have sold untold millions, which I think is mildly amusing.
