anyone know what movie is, was, has been the highest grossing movie of all time? Including opening weekend, and any revenue from rentals, purchases, etc. I bet someone it was Star Wars, but in my heart of hearts I know that's not true (anymore).

Isn't it Titanic? Star Wars was at one point but was topped by ET. I think the reissues put it back on top but Titantic still has them both beat. I think Gone With the Wind is tops in terms of dollars adjusted for inflation.

yeah, but the sites that come up seem to conflict one another, and none of them include ancillary (sp?) earnings like rentals and purchases. They all list Titanic as top grossing, but only from box office reciepts.

You'd have to take into account ticket inflation over the last 100years. Movies didn't always cost 20$ to see, so older movies gross would have to be adjusted to todays prices.

looks like i lose either way. thanks for the help.
edit: okay, he's admitted that Star Wars might be highest if all toy sales and other merch is included. we've agreed to call it a wash. thanks again for the help.

Is Blair Witch Project still the highest ratio of gross to budget?
i can't imagine it being any other movie, unless primer made more money than god
Primer. That was a good movie. I still watch it every so often. I really like it, even though some of it does go over my head a little. The whole causality thing gets pretty confusing after a couple of layers. Glad they didn't have a bigger budget. Great just the way it is. So is he building a huge one at the end, and if so, what is his motive?
