Anyone else been watching this? It's a 10-part documentary about the ins and outs of the USS Nimitz on a 6-month cruise. Lots of stuff you'd expect in terms of the various aspects of a carrier, as well as some surprisingly good "reality TV-type" stuff on the crew. Worth a watch, especially since it's in HD.

I don't have HD. :(

Some navy recruiters have been calling me recently. They claim that the call up rate for reservists is very low compared to the other branches, implying they are somehow safer. I definitely wouldn't be envious of sailors in a shooting war, seeing as how many casualties are from fires. :|

Yeah! I've been waiting for someone to post about this show. I like it. I forgot how fun it was to watch a week long series.

my old man told me if i was ever to expect a draft be instated, i should think about immediately joining up for the navy. i'm not sure if that makes sense ... but that's what he told me.

anyway, i haven't seen this, but i did see a nova special on the japanese ww2 battleship yamato tonight that was fantastic. when's this show on?

The Navy looks to be safer but much, much more boring; especially if you're on a carrier and are not a pilot. Although one of the ships did lose a guy overboard and never found him.

I was wandering around wikipedia and reading up on the world events I missed by yanno, not being alive. Incidents such as that involving the USS Stark leave me with less confidence that the Navy is 'safe'. Safer, definitely, but shit still happens. Also, I didn't know about Iran Air Flight 655, which is an tragic bit of US Iranian relations. According to the wikipedia article, the expense of the ship might have been a contributing factor in firing rather recklessly. Thats depressing, we can't risk a capital ship, so we'll shoot at a radar blip in a commercial flight path. :(

Crazy shit with those night landings tonight.

I also just realized Mel Gibson is an exec. producer on this.

I've been watching it. It's quite good. It's not apart of the military that I'm familiar with. But in many ways, it's just like the military that I'm familiar with.

The pitching decks last night were not cool at all. I almost felt like vomiting sitting in my recliner. I mean...the swings on either end must have been dozens of feet up and down.

The music to it is amazing. I'd really like to get the soundtrack list from it. There's a lot of good music that I don't think I've ever heard.

It's a solid documentary. I'd recommend it to anyone that's not familiar with the military at all. It's excellent insight, accurate, and honest.
