My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the armies of the North, General to the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
good movie, should not have won the oscar over traffic though.

That scene where Crowe is about to get executed in the snow covered forest is badass. He kills like three guys with his hands tied and with one of the other guys sword.

"The frost. Sometimes it makes the blade stick."
One of the best set-up lines in the history of badass movies.

Probably my favorite moment in any movie ever.

I love this fucking movie. Visually, it's a masterpiece. The scenes of Maximus walking among the hay (though if you look closely, you can see it's actually a body double and not Russell Crowe) with his hand out is very symbolic and just a pleasure to watch. Also extremely impressive is how we see Maximus' head travelling over the ground as if he's levitated a foot off of it. Ridley Scott is a genius.
Crowe's performance is amazing, and I agree with him winning the Best Actor Oscar. His character is so compelling, and Crowe plays him exactly the right way: tough as nails buy sympathetic. The other acting is also very good, though I think the script has a few problems ("Why is he still alive? This vexes me. I'm terribly vexed.").
Favorite scene: Where he reveals himself to Commodus. First he turns his back on him when asked to take off his mask, and the whole dialogue about his wife and son murdered and his claim that he'll have vengeance in this life or the next is just outstanding.

The only part I really didn't like about this movie, other than a couple of Commodus's lines, was some of the cinematography during the opening battle. I thought they could have done a better job on the charging cavalry (the slow-mo during this looks hella cheesy) and some of the earlier shots.
But in general, that battle is fucking awesome.
"Heir seid verflucte hunde!" (in German: you are damned dogs - yes, I looked it up)
"They say no."
"People should know when they're conquered."
"Would you, Quintas. Would I?"

great movie...but it's only the second best movie ever named Gladiator.
The one with Cuba Gooding and the guy from A Few Good Men kicks ass...

Did you know that those "Germanic" tribes were actually Los Angeles' own Hells Angels?
