this show is awesome. I can't wait to watch it unfold. Perfect "Reality" show, as there are actual consequences on the boxers carrers and fighting records...
The only small complaint I had was that they don't show the entire fight, but I realize its a TV show, so there isn't much you can do about that...also, way too many commercials last night.

Great show. I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. 5 round fight each episode and I like the way the fighters can get into each other's heads.
The only thing I know about it is that Stallone was a pall bearer at one contender's funeral this weekend. What's the story?
The dude from Philly killed himself after the taping of the show. I'm not sure if it was because he didn't win the contest, or events that have happened in his life, or a combination of the both...but I heard that he had a really rough upbringing...someone at work told me they heard Stallone on Stern the other morning and he was talking about this guy. I bet when they air the episode he loses, we'll get a better picture of what this guy from Philly is all about...I think he had a little kid, too.
he shot himself outside the gym he worked out at, with his girlfriend in the car with him. apparently his neighborhood was so bad, he would sleep on the floor because he didnt want to be shot in his sleep. so when he did the contender, he slept on the floor too.

I think he shot himself while sitting in the car outside of his girlfriends house, not with her in the car. I'll check up on it

Same here, I wasn't expecting too much out of it but I really enjoyed it. I hope they can get around having to dub Sly and Sugar Ray's dialogue in future episodes; I found that kind of annoying.
Coming up: Ensign9 rants about NBC's use of "Coming Up" during The Contender.
NBC, do we really need a preview of the next segment of the show less than 2 minutes beforehand? WTF?

It was pretty sad. I was hoping he would win for one last glorious momnet but i knew if he killed himself he probably lost. he definitely seemed like a lost soul. I'm glad the show didn't overdo it about the suicide but i would have liked them to give a hotline number for suicide prevention or something like that. Seemed like they skipped right over it.

It was somewhat misleading that Sugar said he passed away. Looks like to me they could have an excellent typical NBC "The More You Know" segment to air right after the show with some sort of hotline.

Yeah... I found his wording odd.
i'm guessing that the reason that they glossed over the suicide is that they wanted to play up the fund they're starting for his daughter and the stigma of suicide probably wouldn't have been good for donations.
