I've been trapped inside all summer, watching the kids during my break. The heat prevents me from taking them outside, and the retarded one keeps me from going out much. At first I listened to a ton of music and read. But the last few weeks have been driving me nuts.
I haven't played video games since, like, 1996. I remember liking the Mechwarrior game, because as you got better you made more money and could improve your vehicle and hire other troops. I liked the original Simcity, but not so much the next set. I thought Empire Earth looked cool when I watched the kids play it.
I need a game that would be fun but easy to learn and easy to pause and return to like, every ten minutes.

Civ games are NOT easy to learn. I tried that, cos they look cool. Thanks tho.
I'm talkin PC.
The kid is freaking retarded. He's got a low IQ, he's autistic and schitzo, he pees himself, and his dad's an assbag. All clear evidence of bein a short busser. Clearly, I need a bit of escapism now and then.
I'll check it out. It might be a double bonus, actually...my wife loves fantasy novels. It's totally out of character, but she just chews them up. A game like that might not even get me mocked.

You need to get a job bagging groceries or something. Jesus christ on a cracker. I've never heard anyone speak of a child like that.

Never fear. I'm a teacher.
In all honesty, my stepson is 13 years old and has a number of serious disabilities. I, being the only man in his life (part of his malfunctioning mental capacities involves disrespecting women) get to do all the parenting work. I'm merely venting, which I feel is okay because it's a safe place to do so (online) and because I've been patient with him now for just over 1,500 days in a row. He wants to be a good kid, but not one of the thousands of kids I've worked with as a teacher has been half as troublesome or as destructive to himself and others as this young man is.

I've worked with special needs kids. I know how tough and frusterating it can be. Trust me, I feel your pain. But my gawd, that was harsh!!
Plus, if he has autistic tendancies, can't you just find him something to self stim off of for a few hours?

Not this one. Let me tell you, I worked my way through college at group homes and facilities for people who's mental disabilities kept them from living at home. I've worked with plenty of special needs kids at the school, and a few years ago I dedicated my plan time to working in the BIC room as a homework assistant, but I've never seen anything like this kid before. One day last year I got a call at work because, when the teacher called recess as being over, he accused another kid of "causing recess to end," punched the kid in the face, and hopped the fence and started running down a busy street. And that's not really an unusually bad situation for him, it's just typical enough for me to use it.
I think I've made a lot of progress with him, but every now and again I need to let off steam or pretend my life is normal.

If you like driving games, I got my dad Need for Speed Underground last year for Christmas and he loves it. No, you don't get to kill anyone but if you like racing games just for the sake of racing then I highly recommend it.
You could always sign up at Gametap. It's a great idea but I wouldn't want to pay $9.95 a month for it

It's got to be tough. He may just have too many problems. Some people just can't be fixed, I think. It's sad, but true.
