If the first thing to come to mind isn't Blues Brothers, then there's something seriously wrong with you.

ronin
transporter

If your best example is Bad Boys, you really don't know what a car chase scene is.

the car chase scene in To Live and Die in LA is awesome. (for those that don't know, it was directed by the same guy who did the French Connection)

the chase scene in the french connection has not aged well. it's vogue to name it because it was sort of the first, but compared to what chase scenes would become, it's not that great. A car, attempting to dodge pedestrians by hitting the brakes, chasing an elevated train? c'mon

No shit, that car chase was awful. Michael Bay can't direct/edit a coherent action scene to save his life. it's all flash, debris, and unfunny one-liners.

I'm not a huge fan, I only like them if they serve the story and make sense in the narrative. Matrix Reloaded, it made sense: they had to get The Key to a safe place, and the agents were trying to stop them.

And one of the keys to a great car chase: collateral damage.

they're part of the language of movies. dismissing chase scenes out of hand is like removing the letter m from the alphabet.
