Most horror sequels (especially those within a long series of films) tend to be cheesy, but fun for the fans of the series:
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
Friday the 13th part 4: The Final Chapter
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers
The Exorcist 3
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
Freddy vs. Jason (though, this might be the first in a new series)

There have been the occasional legitimate remakes:
The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
The Shining (1997 mini-series) (though not nearly as good as the original)
House on Haunted Hill (1999)

And those that are comparable in quality (or superior) to the original:
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Day of the Dead
The Devil's Rejects
Saw 2

In the spirit of the season, discuss any worthwhile horror sequels, prequels and remakes.

Phantasm 2, 3, 4 are supposed to be good. I wish I had a way to find out. They are so hard to find (except 4)

Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers

Don't forget part 3.

A Nightmare on Elm Street part 6: Freddy's Dead was also a decent one for me, even if it was really funny. The nails on chalk board, Power glove and "You're Fucked!" map do it for me.

The Iggy Pop song in the credits is great too.

I prefer to permanently erase that from my memory.

Freddy's Dead is pretty cool. I still prfer New Nightmare, FvJ and Dream Master over it, though.

Good Sequels:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III
Inferno
Dawn of the Dead ('78 )
Day of the Dead
Land of the Dead
The Devil's Rejects
Evil Dead II
Army of Darkness

Good Remakes:
The Hills Have Eyes
The Thing

That's really all that comes to mind. However, I haven't ventured into the Jason, Freddy, Halloween, or Hellraiser sequels yet.

mowbs, you make a thread and you cover most of the good ones in the original post. WTF man? :P

I'll agree with you on the Nightmare sequels, Dream Warriors is a favorite of mine, I think Freddy as we think of him today may have been at this best in this one. The Dream Master wasn't bad and I didn't enjoy a Nightmare flick, other than for the kills until New Nightmare.

For the Friday series, give me Part 3 (Jason gets his mask), Part 4 (more violent deaths and titties than you can shake a stick at, plus Corey Feldman), Part 6 (zombie Jason!) and to some extent Part 7, though that's mostly for Kane Hodder as Jason.

I'll agree with Halloween 4 as well, I always liked that one. The rest of the Halloween sequels can suck it though.

Dawn and Day are undisputed classics, and I gave Dawn my number one spot in the favorite horror movies thread. Pretty much goes for Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, they're right there with the original.

What about Bride and Seed of Chucky? Hell, those are more fun than the original Child's Play, and definitely better than the other two crappy sequels that preceded them. Hellraiser 2 is pretty bad ass also, it gets pretty gory in spots. I haven't seen any of the Exorcist or Omen sequels for some reason.

You'd take 4 over 2? It's basically just a rehash of the first one with inferior acting/directing. And it led to the absolute shitfest that was Halloween 5. Part 2 has a decent original story line, along with some pretty great kills.

Halloweens ranked:
1, 4, 2, Curse of Myers, H20, 3, Resurrection, 5.

I think 2 would be the popular response for best Halloween sequel. I do like that movie and I think it's cool how it picks up the moment where the original left off. I think 4 is definitely a little bit creepier than 2 and that's why it always had the edge for me.

I'm one of the very few defenders of Season of the Witch. You're right about 5 though, it fucking sucks. That and Resurrection are the only two in the series that I really don't like at all.

Yeah, I guess you're right, I shouldn't exclude 2, it was a solid entry. I saw 4 in the theater and even though there's nothing at all original about it I've always enjoyed it. 5 sucked donkey balls, 6 I don't remember much about so I'm assuming it was bad as well, H20 was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life and Resurrection somehow managed to beat it even.
