Don't exist. Sorry girls, filmmaking is a man's world.

Julie Taymor's Titus is an excellent adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. Anthony Hopkins just chews up the script in this.

Nice. Had your post been in praise of female filmmakers, I would have chimed in with the following:

GV: "Good female film directors"

:bammer: : "I'll take 'Things that don't exist' for $1,000 Alex."

I'd say Sofia Coppola is a pretty big oversight here.

Spatial skills aren't the domain of the women.

Penny Marshall directs entertaining movies for the most part, and Awakenings is a good film.

And I thought Catherine Hardwicke did a good job with Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown.

There have been a few here and there throughout history, none of them were narrative filmmakers strangely enough. I can't recall any female documentarians but Maya Deren did some pretty good experimental work in the 30s and 40s:

also, just googled this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:F ... _directors

Mary Harron she directed "American Pyscho", I think that's it though, along with some tv shows.

Kathryn Bigelow - Point Break. LOCK IT!!!

Seriously, the chase scene in that movie is pretty cool.

Amy Heckerling is the only other female director I can think of who hasn't already been mentioned.

What makes it more impressive is that it's not a top tier play.
