"I am inclined to believe that our personality hereafter will be able to affect matter. If this reasoning be correct, then, if we can evolve an instrument so delicate to be affected by our personality as it survives in our next life, such an instrument, when made available, ought to record something." Thomas Edison 1920
White noise is a type of noise that is produced by combining sounds of all different frequencies together. If you took all of the imaginable tones that a human can hear and combined them together, you would have white noise.
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) is the process through which the dead communicate with the living through household recording devices. These extraordinary recordings-captured by people all over the world, in their homes, with a simply tape or video recorder-seem to confirm what many of us have dared to believe: it is possible for the dead to communicate with us.
The earliest known scientific attempt at receiving communication with the so-called dead via recording equipment - apart from Edison's solitary work in the 1920's - was on April 23rd. 1933, in the studios which later became known as Decca Records.
In this first example, we were recording in one of the cell blocks at Alcatraz. You can hear Lisa say, "You can speak on this device." Immediately after that, one or two men can be heard saying, "That's right, we know you."
From Tape 1, Side 2 #14: Sarah asks, "Were you aware that I was on the porch last evening when I went out there?" Answer, "I found you there." This is a singing voice.
I saw the commercial for this...looks pretty freaky. But I think they are going in the wrong direction with the movie...it looks to me like they are have Keaton's character stumble upon something he doesn't want to come in contact with on the other side...it looks like they are trying to make a scary movie....I want to see it, though.

i agree a bit. the ads on TV are not even close to as freaky as the trailer was in the theatre. i think that the act of trying to contact the dead opens up a portal that at first is good, but becomes an open hole where anything can come through. this movie is disturbing
