Freeman revelaed that the cast and crew found out it was to be three films at the wrap party. They knew they had to come back for pickups next year but now they have to go back for extensive filming. Jackson doesn't know when to stop. That's his big problem. |

I enjoyed it a lot. I have not read any of the books (somehow) so I'm not saddled with preconceptions about length/scope. I didn't feel the weight of the story as much as in the LOTR movies, but that's expected, I think. It was fun. |

making this one a trilogy, its a mistake.....even if the box office is a hit, ( its seems its going well for the movie) , 3 movies for this book?? cash grab. |

He made the original movies, they were huge hits, and now he's absolutely certain that he "gets" this world that's being presented...that his vision of it perfectly matches what audiences actually want and best enjoy. So where hesitation or careful consideration might have occurred before, now overconfidence and gut feeling dominate. Where editing, cutting, and clarity once helped cinematize the novels (albeit with some fans of the original works left unhappy), now overindulgence and expansiveness leave everyone with an inferior product. Basically, instead of questions like "Okay, Radagast the Brown....do we need him for this movie? If not, how can we excise him without disrupting the plot? If we do need him, what's the best presentation in terms of the overall feel and design of the film?"....we just get this:

Is this movie better or worse than RoboCop? |

RoboCop was pretty awesome too from what I remember. |

Though he did borrow many words from Irish including Naisc(ring) for the Nazgul. Well, either Peter Jackson doesn't know this, or Tolkein underestimated that by writing an inherently British-style fantasy, you're going to have celtic imagery, feel and mood in there whether you like it or not... Bringing in Enya for the LOTR soundtrack was hardly the only move which pushed the general aesthetic towards celtic. And I'm pretty sure I've seen celtic knotwork in the trailers... I may be wrong about that. |

The elves were pushed towards slightly Celtic design influences in the films but men and dwarves were old Anglo Saxon/Norman. Meduseld. Tolkien had no interest in anything celtic. Jackson and co just lived the design. No biggie. |

Guys, shouldn't this conversation be taking place at a convention of some sort? |

I think it's probably just Hollywood thinking anything mythological is vaguely 'celtic'. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened. The characters in the animated movie 'Brave' were Scottish, but the music was more Irish. Happens all the time. |

that's pretty metal right there I kinda just assumed that conventions on your side of the pond must involve a lot of heavy-set ladies dressed up as Rose Tyler and guys walking around with Dave Lister dreds or something. I never even bothered including England's mysterious, violent antisemitic underground. |

Prety nice, couldn't stand some (lack) of characters, like Bombur, where his character is "Be the fat guy". And I actually enjoyed Radagast the Brown and his bad-ass bunny ride. |

I really liked Hop and its badass Hasselhoff cameo. See how calling it badass did absolutely nothing to make it true? |

Radagast was sent to help the animals, so clearly they had to make a hyperbole of that trait to spell it out. |

I liked Radagast too. Who doesn't get a kick out of sled bunnies? I mean come on. It may be a little intrinsically kid-friendly but it's not like it was Jar Jar up there. |
