As I'm sure I've said before on here, Louis C.K. is my favorite comedian out there right now. His last two specials have been tremendous, his two shows are both great (with some episodes of Louie being downright genius-in both the comedic and cinematic sense).
What I'm bumping the thread to say is that I a going to see him in Albany tomorrow night and I am excited about it. I'm hoping that he's refining a new act for another special.

you're in for a treat. "word" is every bit as good as his other tours.

His newest special, Hilarious, that isn't on DVD yet, is available to watch online.

I wish I could see him live soon.

He was tremendous tonight in Albany. His first bit had me laughing so much my lungs and stomach started hurting. I don't think I would have survived if it had gone on much longer. My cheeks are still hurting from smiling and laughing for so long. I only just realized that I haven't seen Hilarious yet, but the show tonight was just as great as Shameless and Chewed Up. He is truly the best comedian working right now.

I just watched all of Hilarious on youtube and I think my face is going to fall off and I'm having trouble breathing due to the pain in my stomach. I think I've overdosed on Louis tonight.

Got tickets to the Asheville show on October 7th. Can't wait to see his new material! This guy is the funniest stand up comedian around IMO.

What's your biggest complaint about him? The only thing I know him from is a small part on the NBC sitcom "Parks and Recreation."

take away his the vulgarity and shock from his routine and what's left? if you took away inane shit like calling your daughter an asshole you'd realize he's not saying anything interesting or groundbreaking. if you stripped the vulgarity and shock value away from, say, a george carlin routine, you'd be left with an interesting speech that made you think.

lots of ways to get a laugh. i just don't find louis ck's way particularly interesting, and his act certainly isn't worthy of most of the ink (digital or otherwise) that's spilled over it.

I will keep this in mind if I ever attempt to listen to a Louis CK comedy routine.

I think the "shock"comes in that you typically don't hear parents talk about their kids the way he does. He is very honest about the way parents feel a lot of the time, but generally aren't willing to admit. It works on a level other than "shock" because it feels very real for him- and its also apparent he loves his kids and is a caring father. It would be different if he was some absentee dad or a guy who legitimately resents his kids.

He's also a comics comic- a guy that toiled for years on the comedy circuit as an unknown before catching a break with the uneven HBO show.. and then he took that exposure to create a show that is kind of a very dark Curb- that is obviously very personal to him (to the point he stars, directs and edits the entire thing) and he shows a willingness to show his own shortcomings and insecurities.

I agree with thodoks on just about everything, to the point that I would sire a child with his wife if fertility was an issue. But This one I just don't see.

i feel exactly the opposite. i have seen him on every tour since he started changing it yearly (like carlin). the shock factor was used up with shameless. he has toured for chewed up, hilarious, and word since then. is he vulgar in them? yes, but his audience isn't turning up expecting to be shocked. in fact, we're desensitized to that aspect of the show. i think it's unfair to say he gives his audience nothing to think about. what about how children are the only people we're allowed to hit legally? what about how awesome it is to be white? seriously. more than anything, what i like about louis is how he points out the worst of mankind and makes it funny: "everything is amazing and nobody is happy." as for the base humor, calling a kid an asshole isn't vulgar when they're not in the room. it's accurate.

all subjective, of course, but i think he's been the best comedian working for the last 5 years. bill burr is up there too though.
