It does look really boring, but we will see what happens. I didn't know he had a film coming out. I wish he would put out braveheart two that would be sweet.

Here's a thought: instead of rehashing Mel Gibson's Jew-bashing rants when L.A. cops got him on a DUI in July, let's stick to his movie. Apocalypto brings out what's unique and gripping in Gibson as a director. It's pure adrenaline -- a tremendously exciting chase movie, shot in Mexico, that just happens to be set in ancient Maya with dialogue spoken in Yucatec Maya, with English subtitles. Heck, you lived through Latin and Aramaic in Gibson's Passion of the Christ, so don't be a wussy. Actually, you'd better not be gore-shy, because Apocalypto is one brutal and bloody ride.
The plot, cooked up by Gibson and Farhad Safinia, focuses on Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood), a braveheart if ever there was one. Even women and children are killed when his village is attacked by another tribe. After hiding his pregnant wife and young son in a cave, Jaguar goes on the run experiencing adventures that would give Indiana Jones the screaming meemies. The movie flies by fast enough to cause whiplash. Youngblood, 25, is a Comanche and Cree Indian from Texas, and he holds the screen every treacherous inch of the way, suffering penitential hardships from spears, snakes and tribal rulers intent on removing his heart while it's still beating.
This being Gibson, there's more to the film than the rush. It's impossible not to see parallels to our own cultured civilization, one that knowingly destroys its environment and sends troops to Iraq as human sacrifices. Gibson has made a film of blunt provocation and bruising beauty -- it's breathtaking to watch a jaguar racing in the jungle alongside the man who is named after the beast. Say what you will about Gibson, he's a filmmaker right down to his nerve endings.

Get ready for more Mel Gibson controversy.
The “Apocalypto†director recently made widely reported comments drawing parallels between Mayan culture shortly before it collapsed and America’s current situation, saying “the precursors to a civilization that’s going under are the same, time and time again,†and adding, “What’s human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?â€
The organizer of the film festival where the comments were made says that the quote was “exploited out of context†— but, in fact, Gibson made several other thinly veiled references to America today. For example, the director talked about “the use of fear to manipulate people†then quipped, “so happy that doesn’t happen now.†Motivating people with fear is apparently a major theme of Gibson's new film.
“I just wanna draw the parallels,†Gibson said. “I just looked at it, and thought, we display that stuff here. I don’t wanna be a doomsayer, but the Mayan calendar ends in 2012,†he chuckled. “So have fun!â€
The film itself, according to some who’ve seen it, is so gory that it makes his notoriously blood-soaked flicks “Braveheart†and “The Passion of the Christ†look like kiddie flicks.
“The violence in the film is just downright mean and nasty,†notes a glowing review on CinemaStrikesBack. “This isn’t the kind of violence that makes you pump your fist like in a film like ‘Rocky.' This is violence that makes you squirm in your seat and worry that it will sear your brain forever.â€

no, i just think he could have done a lot with the whole crucifixion story, but instead it's just a snuff film for 2 hours. i love gory horror movies and all taht, so the violence is not a problem. however, i was expecting this movie to have more substance over style. i'm not christian by any stretch, and i judge this movie's merits as a film and what it saysor is trying to say, and to me, this film says absolutely nothing
