When I was really, really little, my Grandpa gave me this tape he made. My Grandpa, up until he died, taped EVERYTHING. He has a huge wall full of tapes. If you can think of a movie, show, he has it on tape.

So anyways, I guess this came on randomly and he taped it. It was a show called Weird Cartoons and when I say weird, I mean WEIRD. This wasn't meant for my like 5 year old eyes. From what I remember, there were old old Little Black Sambo cartoons where he gets chased around by a tiger.

Then there was a black and white one where a port town full of black people are lazing about until a river boat comes with a ton of like soul singers and they start singing to rouse them up. The singers were black too.

There was a freaky animation entitled The Devil's Ball, which I can remember pretty well. The devil invites a bunch of people out to his house, and they arrive. Even now, I'm remembering stuff. Little china cups were together, breaking themselves on the ground. This one guy would blow his head up like a balloon and it'd pop. A dude was shaking up martinis. Anyways, this gorilla hits on the devil's human prospect chick. He tries making out with her. So the devil goes over, pulls out a steak knife, and stabs the gorilla... really freaky stuff. It was all black and white and animation sort of like claymation.

There was old Felix the Cat episodes, where it was in subtitles. A little girl was in the cartoon, but it looked like film, because she was live action. Felix had to get the chickens to lay more eggs, so he whipped them into shape.
There was even ANOTHER one where it was religious. This was in subtitles too, black and white. It involved a crane eating frogs and it involved God somehow. I can't remember that one much.

There was also another black and white cartoon in which two flies are having their honeymoon at a spider's hotel and when they get there, they realize it's a trap and they see a ton of other flies trapped on cobweb beds in the hotel rooms. They stage a rebellion and end up defeating the spider. That one was awesome.

Has anyone ever seen this? I'd rewatch it, but I can't find the tape, which is a real, real disappointment. It'd have to have been on TV or on a tape, because there was a title screen with Weird Cartoons on the front, not just my grandpa sayin gthey were weird cartoons. Any help?

Never seen 'em, man...

But if you're into weird cartoons, I suggest looking for "Rejected" or "Billy's Balloon." I believe they were made by a guy named Doug Hertzfeldt, but I could be wrong...

Trust me, they're hilarious...

I haven't seen most of those, but I have seen some of the original Felix the Cat cartoons from the '20s and those things are nuts. In one, he gets this new girlfriend but then she has a huge litter of kittens, so he commits suicide.

Well, I found it on Amazon, and I bought it, so now I'm gonna relive my scarred childhood memories.
