Did anyone see this IFC documentary about suicides committed at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran?

Apparently someone set up a camera there and they have actual footage of people jumping off. Fucking freaky and fascinating

A security officer in NYC told me that without fail, every year someone commits suicide by jumping off the Empire State Building, no matter how hard they try to step up prevention. I have no idea if that's completely true. I also recall seeing something about survivors of suicide attempts who've jumped off bridges. Apparently, if my memory serves me correctly, 100% of them said the first thought they had immediately after jumping was one of regret.

wow. that's pretty interesting.

as fucked up as it sounds, i think suicide is a fairly interesting topic. i would love to know what is going through a persons head before they attempt it.

one of the guys in this doc. called The Bridge survived his jump and he talks about the whole experience. it's very interesting. and, yes, the first thing he said when he let go of the pole to jump, was he totally regretted itnothing strange about finding this topic interesting. doesn't mean you're suicidal. i think it's fascinating, along with murderers. taking one's own life or someone elses, lots of people think about it, but what pushes you across that line to acting on that thought

I think its more sad than scary, but disturbing nonetheless. I imagine the percentage of people who think about killing themself at least once in their lifetime is quite high.

I bet they have a pretty high rate of turnover there.

I caught the last half or so. Once I started watching it was hard to turn away even though it wasn't always easy viewing. Startling to see actual footage of some successful jumps; their anxious pacing before going over the rail.
I've known three people that have committed suicide and I kept thinking of them and the aftermath the whole show.

yeah, especially the long haired guy. he was pacing for a long time. then he just swiftly hopped over and jumped right off.

were you close to the people you knew who committed suicide? how did they do it? if it's too personal, sorry :peace:

No one real close. Childhood friend. A guy I knew from high school one class below me. A guy from my church youth group. All by gunshot. They were all surprising to me though I did find out the last one had serious depression issues. It always felt very surreal the first couple weeks afterwards. The conversations with mutual friends, the funerals, finding out the details, the questions, how those immediately close handle the situation.
