what do we make of this one?

The average movie-goer has been subjected to an average of 93 minutes of Mel Gibson sad-face. Look it up.
"Okay, guys, here's how it goes: we reveal that character x has betrayed me. Then, I will sit around looking sad...well, I'll get that teary-eyed look an infant has when it poops, but I'll also let my face fall and look around like I dropped my keys and am too lazy to go hunt for them. It might look retarded, but when we get James Horner to drop a score on it we'll have something great. No, for real."

Wow. You really like shitty movies, then.
Well, no. I take The Patriot for what it is: an Americanized Braveheart, if you like. Gladiator, on the other hand, is an overrated wankfest.
In any case, it's better entertainment -- if only because Jason Isaacs plays a better villain than Joaquin Phoenix does ( a snivelling, whining, bitch of a Commodus).

This same logic leads me to believe that Stomp the Yard is a better movie. Because if I take it for what it is, which is an ambitionless manipulative mess, then it succeeds better than Gladiator does at being an arty, plot-heavy action flick.

A tribute to Gladiator then as it is able to arouse strong feelings in its supporters -- I guess.
We're not talking about Top 100 movies here. Saying I'd rather watch one over the other isn't really saying much at all. Just contributin' to c_b's thread.

I guess we'll have to disagree, because I couldn't sit through the Patriot again if I had to. Gladiator is better in just about every way (I'll concede that Patriot had a better villain):
acting script direction (without a doubt) production design pace
Just my opinion. It's no coincidence, though, that the guy in my avatar and the star of Gladiator are the same guy.

This is a brilliant post assuming the following:
1.) you knew he dislikes both movies 2.) That you are implying, based on his post, that he is going to have a movie marathon featuring The Patriot immediately followed by Gladiator.
If this is what you are going for, bravo.. you actually got Iago, which i have no seen done that often.
