Watched this last night, I enjoyed the experience and though the movie is very long, at well over two hours long, it did not seem like it could have been any shorter. The character development was refreshing and done well, Lil’dice, who later becomes Lil’Ze is a hell of a bad guy. Which leads to an important aspect of the film and one of its strengths and that is it painted people not strictly as bad guy, good guy, though everyone did know who the bad guys were but there was a considerable gray area to the characters. The story, with a handful of very intense, even disturbing scenes, is on that I would recommend.

Sorry, you are right.
But in Rio places like the one mentioned in City of God are a lot... I don´t know if there are that much in the rest of the country.

This is one of my favorite movies ever. I love the way it's shot and I love the characters. If you haven't seen this, go rent it now.

if you like this, open your eyes for a new brazilian movie coming out soon
Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad), some people are saying that its even better than CoG
Quote:
Two childhood friends decide to enlist in Rio de Janeiro's Military Police Department. After juggling their police jobs and college, both make up their minds to try out for a Special Operations Squad whose mission is to take down the drug-lords that plague the city. Both men struggle to survive, facing the daily challenges of dealing with pressure at home and fighting an unnamed war on the streets.
This SOS is called BOPE, its one of the most difficult jobs in the world, if not the most
there's a dvdrip on the net already(the movie was stolen), its totally uncut probably there's no subtitle yet, so if you dont speak portuguese, you have to wait
