At least going to attempt to make an honest film about the man and not be too quick to judge him (Like some people :poke: that is me poking a lot of pearl jam fans) Though I wish someone else would do it than Stone.

Oliver Stone to make "fair" movie about George W. Bush

Sun Jan 20, 9:58 PM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Oliver Stone, who has made movies about Presidents John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, is developing a project about the current occupant of the White House, but promises it will not be a hatchet job, Daily Variety reported on Sunday.

Stone is in talks with Josh Brolin, who is starring in "No Country For Old Men," to play the title role in "Bush," the trade paper said.

He is shopping the script to financiers and hopes to start production by April, with a release date in time for the election in November, or the inauguration of Bush's successor in January.

Stone told Daily Variety that he planned to make "a fair, true portrait" of Bush, focusing on such areas as his relationship with his father, President George H.W. Bush, his wild youth, and his conversion to Christianity.

"It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors," said Stone.

He said Brolin was better looking than Bush, "but has the same drive and charisma that Americans identify with Bush, who has some of that old-time movie-star swagger."

A White House spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment. Bush has acknowledged that he was a heavy drinker in his younger days, but has long been sober.

Stone, who has had his battles with drink and drugs, earned three Oscar nominations for his 1991 conspiracy film "JFK." In 1996, he also received a script nomination for "Nixon," which starred Anthony Hopkins. He won best directing Oscars for the Vietnam sagas "Platoon" and "Born on the Fourth of July."

Other historical figures reinterpreted by Stone include dead rock star Jim Morrison in "The Doors," and Alexander the Great in "Alexander."

In 2002, he shot a flattering documentary about Cuban leader Fidel Castro for HBO, but the pay-cable network told him to balance it with more footage about political prisoners on the communist island.

Stone's efforts last year to film a documentary about another Bush nemesis, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, also hit turbulence. His request for access was denied with an official reportedly dismissing the filmmaker as "part of the Great Satan."

I'm curious about this. Mr. Bush seems to me like a passionate, caring person who doesn't handle the complex well, which is what the world is. A terrible leader, but probably a nice enough and probably funny guy.

i think bush probably lost a good 25 years of his life due to the stress and all of the guilt and regret he's going to feel for the rest of his days.

I hope he spends the next 10 years on comedy central. No lie. They could replace literally every Ron White and co. special with George Bush drunk, and use it to lead in to the Daily Show. If he had never been allowed to make decisions which effect, you know, people, he'd be a top shelf kinda bloke.

Damn it. Wasn't 8 years of his atrocious presidency enough entertainment for us all. If this movie has to be made, I wish they would at least wait 10 years or so.

You wouldn't recognize profit potential if it appeared before you in the shape of a movie about a conspiracy notion most Americans already suspect anyway featuring a still-viable Kevin Costner.

I think I got that...but it seems like Stone keeps jumping the gun with these movies. World Trade Center came out too soon, and this one seems to be coming out too soon as well. Movies about actual events are usually better when we get a chance to reflect on them for a few years.

Well for your sake Spielberg will be doing an untitled Lincoln biopic starring Liam Neeson and Scorsese will be doing "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" starring Dicaprio.

First there were a string of biopics containing singer/songwriters and now there will be a string of films about presidents. Good thing is, though, we can distinguish filmmakers such as Stone, Spielberg, and Scorsese really well. They won't feel repetitive.

Yeah I knew about the other two projects, but this one here is new to me. I am looking forward to the other two.

I think the real issue here is: isn't that actor like 10 years too young? And also totally not George W. Bush like?

Josh Brolin is the only good thing associated with this film, IMO. haha

It's Hollywood. Give him some grey and white up top and he'll be fine. And he's an actor. It's his job to not be like himself.

But they're usually so careful. Like, nobody would ever cast, let's say....Joaquin Pheonix....as Johnny Cash, because that'd just be rediculous. Knowhatimean?

It sounds like its about Bush's rise so they'll probably show his young days too. It'll be easier to make a young guy look old than an old guy look young.
