When Reid hit the episode when Gale was introduced he texted me about how he really likes this Gale cat and hopes he sticks around.

How did the Breaking Bad community react to his death? It was a good way to move the plot forward, but what a great character. He went too soon.

Gale was definitely written in a way that you don't want to see him die. Unlike a lot of the other people the end up dying because of Walt's actions, Gale is presented as being fundamentally a pretty good guy, which makes his death even more shocking. The kid from the train job is an extension of this I think. As Walt goes along, it's not just drug dealers and killers and other "bad" people getting hurt. It's his own family and other people that, if not totally innocent, are basically good. Definitely gives a lot of weight to the show and is one of the best things about it.

Or at least the actor portraying Mike Ehrmantraut will be appearing in an episode of P&R.
