When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Director:
Guillermo del Toro

Producers:
Guillermo del Toro, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, Thomas Tull, Callum Greene

Scriptwriters:
Travis Beacham, Patrick Melton, Marcus Dunstan, Neil Cross

Starring:
Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Diego Klattenhoff.

this sounds so ridiculous that i can not wait to see it.

Charlie Day and Idris Elba? I'm very intrigued.

Looking at the art, and Guillermo Del Toro, this can't fail to be good can it?

I hope they don't give Idris Elba an American accent for this one.

This sounds like any of those animes with the not very well hidden subtext that if only the will of the Japanese people had been stronger the Empire of the rising Sun would have won world war II (and rightfully so, because they were the victims and the Korean comfort women were volunteers, and it was really a co-prosperity sphere and not at all an empire based on subjugation). Or am I missing something?

No that's generally the idea. Plus: giant robots!

Visit the Japanese national war museum in Tokyo. Some pretty awesome revisionist history on display there with tons of America and China bashing.
