For those of you who care for this particular production: there was another film in 2000, and my girlfriend prefers that to the original. How wrong is she on this count?

The only thing I know about this film is that when I was in first grade at Catholic school, everyone was talking about how they "actually nailed the actor to the cross" and it completely blew my mind.

Unfortunately, it's so elementary, and the big time investors behind the drive in the stock market aren't so stupid. This isn't the false economy of 2000.

Are you saying that the best education you received in film was your first grade in Catholic school?
I was under the impression that the remake was less campy than the original, which would serve to undermine it But then I watched some youtube clips of it and was corrected. The 2000 version was just a theater production that was filmed, judging by the sets shown in the Youtube clips. Are you not a Rock Opera man in general?

Very wrong. The Jesus in the newer one is a nancy.

Ian Gillan and Murray Head, FTW. Nothing compares to the original album.
Look, I'm not ought to promote a certain stance, I'm just trying to prove my girlfriend wrong. Your comment isn't particularly helpful in this regard. Its A or B, no C is available here. For all I know you are correct (I haven't listened to the album), but I'm looking for input for the issue at hand.
I have a dream of someday showing The Passion of the Christ in an art house with all the audio taken out and the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack looped throughout it. I think it'd be an easy sell.

Well, in that case, I've seen the 1973 film, but not the newer one. The film is good, but the album is better, especially the music performance.
