C'mon I can't be the only old fart out there that knows and appreciates this flick  I first caught it on VHS at some point in my early teens. It's one of those usual stories of course, at the theatre it came and went without a blip, but started picking up a bit of a cult status on video. Well I was absently browsing thru Blockbuster earlier tonight and it caught my eye, I had to go for it. But I must say popping in the DVD, man the trailer they made for this thing was god awful. I mean I know a lot of trailers for movies back then look kinda rudimentary, even ones that were meant to be big at the time, but this was especially awkward.

Thing was, those first few years of watching it over and over, I always assumed that the music was really coming from them, that actor Michael Pare really was singing. I since came to find out it was John Cafferty of course, but what helped perpetuate this belief for so long, you know how you can imagine a person's voice sounding a particular way just based on what their face looks like? This was the case with Pare, to me he totally looked like Cafferty's voice would naturally be coming out of him, so I completely bought into it.

And did anybody else know there was a sequel though? I literally just found out as I was looking at the movie's IMDB page a couple minutes ago. "Eddie & The Cruisers 2: Eddie Lives" from 1989. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097262/
From the looks of it, I'm glad I never knew that :P I certainly don't wanna see it now and sully my memories. This thing looks like it's bad and not even in an ironic, fun way.

Anyway great 80's flick here, had to bring it up to find out if there were any other lovers of the original Eddie out there :P

"Hey man, you got some fine college here! All the advantages. Ya got ivy walls... lecture halls... full dress balls... and the Cruisers, for the nasty stuff! For the get down music, and the hangin' tough. Better grab a woman, and don't mention ya name! 'Cause after tonight, she'll never be the same. When the lights go out, and the clock winds down, gonna find me a woman, and go downtown. No hand holdin' baby, who'll limp and tuck, I want a girl off the streets, who knows how to (<riff>)!!"

I used to love this movie.. I had HBO in my teens and they replayed it over and over again.. one of my sisters owned the soundtrack (on tape), I thought Michael Pare sang all the songs too and was shocked to learn it was a real band.

I have to admit sometimes when I'm flicking thru the stations and I land on "the dark side" I listen..

my dad used to play this soundtrack over and over again....I think I still know the words to every song.

"wooooah tender years, won't you wash away my tears"

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Great cast including Joe Pantoliano and David Silver's dad.

Yeah I remember seeing it as a kid when my parents watched it. They loved the movie so I got several more chances to see it over the years.

It's such a nostalgic part of my childhood and such that one day I came across the soundtrack cd in the bargain bin and scooped it right up.

Fun stuff.
