I'm against killing sharks myself, but when they tell us we have nothing to fear when it comes to sharks I feel like socking them in the face. Tell that to the Australian kid who was bit in half a couple years ago.

So what, an Australian kid was bitten by a shark. And...?
What, do you think that sharks premeditate attacks on humans? When sharks attack people its because they are acting like sharks. This "sharks are man-eating machines" attitude is ridiculous. Sharks are sharks.

I think it might only be in theatres in Canada since it was a Canadian film-maker. You could probably download it somewhere soon. I have a feeling I'm going to buy the DVD for this as well though.

Yes, exactly, sharks are sharks. It's like saying don't fear lions and bears when you're near them. I will fear sharks. I will always fear swimming in the ocean. But I enjoy the shit out of Shark Week and National Geographic. Amazing animals.

You're totally missing the point. I don't think it's right to say we shouldn't fear these animals. I wouldn't go tell a person to jump in the ocean and swim with a shark if they spotted one, as opposed to petting sheep. Sharks are dangerous animals, but I also don't think we should kill them because of it. I'm just saying don't tell me they're not dangerous, because they are.

OK, so the point is, then, don't freak out if someone gets bitten or killed by one.

The ocean is big, blue, and mysterious. And sharks are big animals with sharp teeth in this big, blue, and myterious ocean. I will freak out when someone gets bit in half, or if you watch the video of that woman being attacked. I would still get in a cage though, just to feel the rush.

It's their ocean. You're just visiting. When surfers and swimmers get bit or killed, it sucks but it's no big surprise. The sharks are simply responding naturally to a near exact copy of thier main food source. Would you put on a raw meat shirt and run through a pride of lions? Big fucking things with sharp fucking teeth in their own environment attack other things imitating their food.

I see your point fundamentally. If a 4yr old kid saw this movie with no adult supervison and lived on a boat off the coast of San Francisco; out near the island of seals where the Great White sharks hang out; and he/she heard the guy say sharks aren't dangerous, I could see cause for alarm. However, if someone is going to watch this documentary, one would have to assume that the person seeing the film has at least heard about sharks. Probably, as in most shark shows, the danger of sharkbites was sensationalized and completely blown out of proportion. One has to believe that people are not so fucking stupid that you have to point out to them, at every juncture no less, that they are not the supreme beings on this planet. Big fucking things with sharp fucking teeth can kill you. Correction; they will kill you when you act like their main source of nourishment when they have only their basest instincts to guide them rather than your/our superior intellect.

Spielberg didn't ruin us... stupidity did.

i just got around to seeing this. there are some sad, shocking parts. it makes me feel really guilty about the shark steak in my freezer that my girlfriend convinced me to buy :( .

i already try to avoid eating seafood that's been caught with ecologically harmful or unsustainable fishing methods like long-line fishing, but now i've got a little more resolve.
