Denis Leary on Autism


Denis Leary has gotten himself in trouble with the Autism Society of America after an excerpt was released from his new book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid. Here's Denis' take on the topic via Page Six:

"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."

Considering I insult Criss Angel any chance I get, it'd be hypocritical of me to fault Denis for making fun of the mentally challenged. In the meantime, he completely redeemed himself, to me anyway, with his following thoughts on Dr. Phil:

"[He says] such thick and exasperating things as, 'Everybody has their own personal Ground Zero.' Oh, really? Does that mean someday two large speeding planes will crash into the side of your insipid hairless head? Let's hope so."

i lost so much respect for leary after seeing hicks perform. i really thought he was an original

unless Hicks wrote "Asshole", he's got no argument.

leary and hicks were actually friends and upcoming comedians at one time. nearly all of leary's stand up persona was ripped off from hicks. the "i'm loud and angry about how the world is and i love to smoke" persona was totally bill hicks'. remember in no cure for cancer, released in 93, when leary said that his father "had balls so big he had to carry them around in a wheelbarrow"? that line was directly lifted from hicks' routine talking about the police officers who beat rodney king, saying that in order to claim they were innocent, they had balls so big they had to carry them around in wheelbarrows. there were other things in hicks' routine that leary stole as well such as his bit on jim fixx.

Meh, comedians use the same bits here and there all the time. Search 'comedian steal' and you'll see tons of comparison videos. Truth is, alot of these guys write jokes for other comedians but sometimes use the material themselves as well. Leary's been successful because of his outrageous style and delivery, which is his, not Hicks'.

you're right about comedians "borrowing" from others; when i first saw hicks, though, i had no expectations and it just blew me away how fucking familiar he was (because i had seen leary first) i'm pissed at leary for this...so he just better work on doing a better season of Rescue Me this year

Hicks was so much better though, so much better.

I didn't think Lock & Load was that great. I did like No Cure For Cancer a bit.

I agree with him. Autism is the new ADD.
