If you're like me, you can't stand the typical holiday movie fare, but still might want to get into the holiday spirit over the next month. So let's have a listing and discussion of some of your favorite non-traditional Christmas movies, ie movies that are related to the holidays but not in the same way as a Christmas Story or it's a Wonderful Life.

Some of my favorites are:

Gremlins
Die Hard
Black Christmas

There's several more but I want to see if others list them, and if anyone else does this around the holidays.

Hell yes. I was hoping someone else would say it.

Scrooged, though I suppose that's somewhat more traditional, but I'd qualify it.

Silent Night, Deadly Night

Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, and Gremlins are my 3 all-time favorite Christmas movies.

Technically, Thanksgiving, but we always watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles around my house.

No way is Scrooged non traditional. I cannot watch that movie in the middle of summer. Does not make sense.

And by the way "Planes Trains and Automobiles" is stictly thanksgiving. I've had arguments about that movie before.

Don't get excited because of the other thread now. I said I was debating it, but yeah, I think under the terms we're talking about it wouldn't really qualify. Of course I wouldn't watch Black Christmas in July either but I think it works for what we're trying to come up with here. Movies that take place on, around or deal with Christmas that wouldn't necessarily come up in the same breath as youre more typical holiday fare.

Black Christmas??? Did you pick that just because it's a Non-traditional x-mas movie, because i thought that movie was God awful.

And Lethal Weapon is my favorite as well

I do hope we're both talking about the Bob Clark version from the 70's and not the remake from last year, which I haven't seen.

Scrooged is on the edge between traditional and non. Traditional moral of the story but in a dark comedy.

You should check it out, it's a pretty awesome movie.

I may actually brave the remake sometime this year with friends and beer just to see that little cutie Mary Elizabeth Winstead and know for a fact how horrible it is.
