Not a fan, eh?

The title has always grated on me.

It's been almost three years since I read Savage Detectives and I still haven't read a book that hit me like it did. Just, you know, for the record.

Also I've never really had a desire to get Monsieur Pain, though I might grab it now that it's in paperback.

Its worth reading for fans, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

Reading Bartleby & Co. I can see why Bolaño and Vila-Matas were such homeboys.

From what I've read about that one (and there hasn't been much out there), it's more of an expansion of that one story than a 'lost part' or new novel.

This.

Would it be a stretch to say that in 2010 RM would've made more money selling Bolaño tshirts than Red Mosquito tshirts?

Did you read Never Any End to Paris? That had a Savage Detectives ring to me, in certain ways.

Haven't read it. The only other V-M I've read is Dublinesque, which I very much enjoyed, but which I can't really say made me think of Bolaño in any way.

Also, the whole concept of "writers of the No" really contrasts with DFW and Infinite Jest, which is what I read before B&C.

Rafa, have you ever read Walser? I first read him thanks to Bartleby & Co., and it was a great choice.

NAETP has been added to the list, as has been Walser.

Also, I've been meaning to read Man Without Qualities for a while, I think I may give it a try in the near future.

My copy of 'SoE' is out for delivery, will arrive this afternoon. Pumped.

It's a crazy time of year, though, so I probably won't really get to sit down with it for 2-3 weeks. Why do Bolaño books always get released at the end of semesters?

My package of Secret of Evil, Almost Never and The Whole Beast: Nose to Tail Eating is slated to arrive Friday/Saturday. I just started the Pale King though, so who knows when I'll be able to get around to it. My reading volume on my commute has drastically given way to sleeping on the subway, but I'm trying to turn it back around.

I've read like 12 books all year. I suck.

On the plus side, this school term is almost over.

Pretty, as always. It's hard to see, but the dust jacket has an embossed set of parentheses behind the text.

"The Tour" is a weird, weird tribute to Syd Barrett.
