The Texas Chainsaw Massacre scared the dogshit out of me. That whole hook thing messed me up for the next couple of days. I still can not rewatch that movie.
Jesus Christ yes. I watched it on HBO, by myself, at 3 in the morning, in complete darkness. I almost pissed my pants and made poops. I almost called you up crying, Tom.

Texas Chainsaw, the original, was pretty scary the first time I saw it

I haven't been genuinely scared by a film for quite some time now. The Ring was the last film to do that to me.
The film that has scared me the most, however, is actually Jaws - but that was when I was about 10 or 11, and I hadn't seen any scary films prior to that.

I must be the only person who thinks The Ring wasn't scary at all. For me, the original Night of the Living Dead is probably the scariest movie I've seen. I was young when I first saw it, so it freaked me out for quite a while. I remember having nightmares infleuenced by the movie for a few years. There have been some other good scary movies, but I can't really think of them right now.

yes that is true. i know a few people who won't even watch it again they are so scared.
that movie is a freakshow waiting to happen - I was a mess for a month - wouldn't go upstairs alone, wouldn't go inside alone, just a wreck. I'll never ever watch it again.
