Ok guys I am very close to purchasing and need some advice.

With verizon getting in supposedly in 2010, should I wait? How is the AT&T service and does the battery juice get killed cause it is looking service alot?

I can't speak for where you live, but AT&T sucks around here so no matter how bad I want an iPhone, I'm not switching carriers.

I loved verizon, but jumped over for the iphone. Here are my thoughts:

The PHONE SERVICE is not as good as verizon. more dropped calls, etc.

The data coverage is GREAT. no issues at all. I am in Metro West Boston & RI alot.

The functions on the iphone are AMAZING. I will never be without one.

There is talk about all the functions of the phone not working in verizon's network, and / or Apple having to make a "verizon version" of the phone.

I'd go with the the 2 year deal with AT&T and then go back to verizon once the bugs are worked out. That is what we are doing.

AT&T's exclusivity deal is up next year, but I'm not sure Verizon is going to get the iPhone next year. I'd almost be willing to bet that T-Mobile gets it before Verizon. As fitzy said, Apple is going to have make a new version of the iPhone because Verizon runs on a different network. I don't know if Apple wants to do that. They may just wait until Verizon has fully rolled out their LTE (4G) network, which isn't supposed to happen until the end of 2010/early 2011.

Does anyone know of a way to stay logged into Skype? It just seems pretty pointless to have skype only to never be called on it as you're never logged in.

I live in New York, not the city but the burbs, long island. I was thinking the same thing, by the time Verizon's apple phone is ready, My contract with AT &T will be almost up.

I do too. I'm still on the fence about AT&T though. I'm also probably moving in a few months, so I'm going to have to wait at least until I move.

The iPhone 8GB 3G is $100 and the 16GB 3Gs is $200. Capacity of the disk space aside, is the 3Gs worth the extra $100?

100% yes, capacity considered. I'd say the extra 8gb plus the video (upload to YouTube on the fly) is well worth it. I wish I had waited another year.
