Although Hank's earnest charisma would be perfect for this movie, I'm glad it's going to be someone else. Even though they're both busy, Casey Affleck and Christian Bale would be perfect
Hanks Drops Out Director Frank Darabont's passion project adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 has hit a snag, namely the loss of Oscar winner Tom Hanks as Guy Montag. Darabont tells MTV's Movie Blog that "(Hanks) sadly and regretfully had to back out. I was really looking forward to working with him again, but his other commitments just precluded it. He had to take a step back." Hanks and Darabont previously worked together on The Green Mile. Meanwhile, Darabont says he's forging ahead on his take on Ray Bradbury's classic novel, and looking, from a narrow field, for a new leading man. "It needs to be somebody like (Hanks) who has the ability to trigger a greenlight but is also the right guy for the part," he says. "It's a narrow target. It's a short list of people." The movie is tentatively scheduled for a 2009 release
Haven't read the novel, but Truffaut's movie is amazing.
Read books, they are always better than movies. The aforementioned movie didn't leave enough of an impression on me to judge it. I guess that is a judgement after all isn't it?

You should because Truffaut didn't use a lot of source material. Though, some of the stuff he left out needed special effects so I understand, but it makes all the better to update the film. But Truffaut did leave out a key character from the novel. That bothered a lot of people. Darabont is known for staying true to story material, so I'm excited.

Didn't Truffaut already take care of this?
Yes, and he blew dick at it

"Read books"? Uh, duly noted, chief. Life-changing advice right there.
Seriously though, there are a number of movies that are better executed/more memorable than their source material. "The Last of the Mohicans"? "Apocalypse Now"? "The Silence of the Lambs"? Shit, even "The Godfather".

I bet they altered the story so that Guy Montag is wrongfully imprisoned within the first ten minutes, and spends the rest of the film trying to escape using the power of reading and his trusty sidekick the Mechanical Hound - as portrayed by an Aibo.
Really tho I'm not too keen on Darabont but we'll see.
