Actress Farrah Fawcett, who became an icon of 1970s US television, has died of cancer in Los Angeles aged 62, her spokesman has confirmed.

Fawcett is best known for starring in Charlie's Angels, and in later years for hard-hitting TV and stage roles.

Her battle with illness was chronicled in the television documentary Farrah's Story earlier this year.

The screen star's long-term partner, actor Ryan O'Neal, recently disclosed they would finally get married.

Fawcett was previously married to Lee Majors, star of The Six Million Dollar Man, from 1973 to 1982.

She and O'Neal had one son, Redmond, who is serving a prison sentence for drug offences.

As Fawcett's career was taking off, she posed in a red bathing suit for a poster which went on to sell several million copies.

Her tousled blonde locks, made famous by her role in Charlie's Angels, were emulated by fans across the globe.

The actress earned a string of Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her small screen roles, but never won one of the major awards.

In 1995, she was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

While I was very young when Farrah was the height of her popularity she was one of the first celebrities I recognized as being "pretty".

i agree, we had her poster in our room and charlies angels was a must see when it was on. her feathery hair was definatly an inspiration to an entire generation. her eyes and smile were equally stunning too.

i know she was usually doped up here towards the end, but she always seemed genuine

i hope this clip shows up

like i said, very genuine

Walter Cronkite?

Michael Jackson maybe.

That article doesn't say what it's about but the news station I'm working for just reported that it's likely he went into cardiac arrest.

edit: TMZ is the source of the cardiac arrest info

They said they had to revive him with CPR and that he wasn't breathing when they got to him.

Sounds like someone's trying to fake their death. :?: I kind of believe Ken Lay's still alive somewhere on an island.
