movie of the year for me. a scifi movie with some brains is a rarity nowadays.
Especially how they were able scrape together all those computer parts from the trash to repair the landing vehicle, but were incapable of making a hot air balloon to float back up to the mothership.
Jesus christ this is nitpicky. I'm pretty sure the mothership doesn't work without the command module anyway.
How the fuck would a hot air balloon open the fucking mothership.
the ship they repaired underground also controlled the mothership :/ a hot air balloon does not control the mothership.

Man, they really will give anyone an internet connection these days.
What? Every single time our main characters are in trouble, I never feel danger or suspense, because I know some extravagent solution is just around the corner.
"Well, now he's going to be shot. What happens?"
"How about more aliens come out of nowhere and kill the guy who is going to shoot him?"
"That was my best guess too. Let's do it."
And the obviousness of the political metaphor makes it silly. We have aliens and humans communicating with each other like it's second nature. Jesus, why not just make a movie about the real refugees?
For me this movie was littered with contrived scenes. It was Transformers with brains, which is not saying too much.
Basically, I could care less whether I see this movie again.
I wouldn't say it was littered with contrived scenes. Wikus finding specific huts in the middle of a huge ghetto was a little much...you can say that was contrived cause the story wouldn't have progressed without him finding those specific sites...Wikus
going back to save Christopher could be seen as contrived but really it isn't unnatural for Wikus to feel a kinship with a prawn after being turned into one

isn't your standard Hollywood ending. I don't know I enjoyed it. Worth a rent.
well, when it comes to fantasy-realism, let's just say I prefer Guillermo del Toro and Co.
He's good...Devil's Backbone was great...enjoyed the Orphanage and Pan's Labyrinth....Blade 2 was good too....not wild about Hell Boy.....I have really high hopes for The Hobbit.

Got this on Netflix. I was impressed. Very convincing effects, especially considering the budget. I liked the extended prologue. I actually thought they may have went overboard with the action in the last 30-45 minutes. I had heard it was gruesome/gory so like Zombieland I was expecting it to be more so than it was. Good movie.
