granted but they did act violently against the MNU and some were actively trying to fuel the control pod so they weren't all grunts. they could at least have kicked Nigerian butt to get some cat food..

No... that was part of the prejudiced assumption that humanity made. We* assumed they were mindless workers, when if fact they were not at all. That makes perfect sense, since a race who had mastered space travel certainly would not have created computers to automate such tasks.

* "We" in this case is the full retard version of humanity presented here.

I watched this again last night and I still feel it's a great film, Copely's tranformation from office grunt/company man to hero is great as it seems the more he transforms into a alien, the more he understands there being in the world, my only plot hole I see and it doesn't really bother is the son figuring out to get the ship moving, but as scene early showing christopher's son getting the globe working kinda showed me that he had a knack for fixing things.

Finally saw this. Wow. Great film! Good story, very solid acting (yeah, a few cliched carachters), and the effects...my gosh, the effects were just mind blowing. Promptly ordered the blu-ray to add to my collection!

Great concept, poor execution. I know i'm in the minority here, but I didn't care for it.

Especially how they were able scrape together all those computer parts from the trash to repair the landing vehicle, but were incapable of making a hot air balloon to float back up to the mothership.

Jesus christ this is nitpicky. I'm pretty sure the mothership doesn't work without the command module anyway.

How the fuck would a hot air balloon open the fucking mothership.

not to mention there's a 20 year period we didn't see where who knows what type of things occurred. regardless, a hot air balloon would've been shot down before it got to 1000 feet.

Way to not think this scenario through before posting it.

No idea what your talking about. All I heard back was, "it would have gotten shot down". I never suggested a balloon could control the mothership or the module wasn't required. I just figured, hey there's probably some of the fluid on the mothership, so why not go up and look for it? Hell, why didn't the humans explore the mothership after extracting all the sick prawns? I would assume the first thing a greedy multinational coporationy thing would do would be strip out anything of potential value from the mothership.

Seems like you're looking for reasons to not like the movie. I don't get it. I've seen it twice and both times I was amazed by it. And it's not like I'm some hayseed who just likes special effects. It's a great movie.

 why even bother watching movies of this kind if you're just going to pick it apart to take any joy out of it? it's a movie. a movie about aliens. a good movie about aliens.
