Skitch,
Even though I love Modern Family, and you hate it, my guess is that there are a lot of shows that we both like or love.....

To demonstrate, here are a list of some of my favorite comedies (mixing some old w/ new:

Seinfeld
Curb your Enthusiasm
Cheers
Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Simpsons
Family Guy
South Park
The Office
The Cosby Show
Parks and Recreation
30 Rock

I dont get the love for this show on any level. Its a cliche family sitcom without a laugh track. I would rate this below a mediocre episode of the Office.

I disagree, at this point, I think it's better than the Office.

the office is not, and never has been, that good.
this show however is borderline bad. Its nauseatingly cliche. OMG their family was having some issues... Hey, lets spread mud all over each other so we can see how silly we were acting!!!

I actually agree with this, but I think you're holding a family sitcom to a more high-brow standard than is reasonable.

yes, this show is goofy, cheesy, cliched. but it's also really damn funny.

Exactly. It's not breaking any new ground, but it's actually funny and has some characters that are interesting and not a walking cliche (at least so far).

There's nothing to get, Skitch. You either like it or you don't.

I think he's hilarious. His partner has had some funny moments too.

He's a calmer, older Al Bundy. How can this be bad?

The mother isn't the best character by a long shot, but Phil & his son are a great, especially in scenes they play together. And Manny is pretty funny too. No real cliches with these characters.

It's just a funny show.

Manny is definitely one of my favorites from the show.

Skitch is just mad because this show is winning awards and Arrested Development is still cancelled.

This is going to be funny tonight......

TV Guide's brief description of tonight's episode:

Spoiler: show
In the second-season premiere, Phil reluctantly agrees to get rid of the Dunphy station wagon, which prompts a wave of nostalgia for the old car. Meanwhile, Cameron enlists Jay's help when Mitchell tries to build a princess castle for Lily; and Manny asks a girl to come over to study.

Interesting, as much as a fan of this show as I am, I don't think this was a great episode. It was okay, but too many cliche jokes.

I really hope the writing hasn't dried up for this show already.

gay stereotypes are so funny!

that's basically all this show has evolved to.

That was about it for genuine laughs last night.

Come on really?

"Whats the plan Phil?"

"Hey, at least I'm doing SOMETHING!"
