Well, I am always looking for films that are off beat or not really well known, I figured I would start a thread about random movies, post trailers or just mention movies you think most people don't know about that should be seen. I know there are a lot of film buffs here and I was thinking of a good way to get recommendations into one thread. I love to find movies and as a whole I think the film fans here have good taste. So yeah, I will start with a few good ones, probably somewhat well known if you are a film fan.

The Proposition

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

Sunshine

Divorcing Jack, a little known adaptation of the Colin Bateman novel. Concerns the Northern Irish peace process, a journalist's failing love life and an appreciation of classical music. Oh, and the most profane taxi driver in Belfast:

Here are movies with less than 2500 votes on IMDB that I would recommend:

Fishing with John-John Lurie, a very cool musician/actor (but not fisherman), goes fishing with other very cool people, including Tom Waits, Jim Jarmusch, Dennis Hopper, Matt Dillon, and Willem Dafoe, one each episode. It is extraordinarily hilarious, especially the untrustworthy narrator. I think it was originally a TV show of some kind, but The Criterion Collection has released it on DVD. This youtube user, http://www.youtube.com/user/dallew has most of or all of the episodes uploaded.

American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince- This is a short Martin Scorsese film in which he basically interviews a friend of his named Steven Prince, who tells great stories, funny and intense. Good stuff. You can watch it here: http://www.documentaryclass.com/2008/07/american-boy-profile-of-steven-prince.html. Enjoy!

Shotgun Stories-This one is from 2007, and stars Michael Shannon. It's about two groups of brothers, both with the same father. The one group, named Boy, Kid, and Son, were neglected and abandoned. The others were loved and cared for. When their father dies, the two groups of brothers begin an all out feud. It unfolds very much like a Greek tragedy. It's probably the most overlooked gem of the last few years.

Vengeance is Mine-A Japanese flick from 1979 by Shohei Imamura about a serial killer on the run from the police. Very intense, great movie.

Branded to Kill-Another Japanese flick, this one from 1967 and by Seijun Suzuki. More than anything else, this movie has character. In one word: badass.

God's Country-A documentary from Louis Malle. Really any documentary by Louis Malle could apply here. His stuff is great, but this one was especially interesting to me.

Sherman's March-The subtitle of this 1986 Ross McElwee doc tells you everything you need to know: A Mediation to the Possibility of Romantic Love in the South During an Era of Nuclear Weapons Proliferation.

Lacombe Lucien-Another Louis Malle flick, but this one is not a documentary. It's about a French youth who joins the Gestapo, and is probably the most despicable character I've ever seen on film.

Land Without Bread-An early Luis Bunuel short film. It pretends to be a documentary, but if you pay attention, you realize that it really isn't. Says more about documentary films and filmmaking than any true documentary could. You can watch it on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=EE8F5A3AA68C0559&search_query=las+hurdes, and it's only like 30 mins.

Le doulos-The most under-appreciated Jean-Pierre Melville film. 'nuff said.

The Mystery of Picasso-Picasso paints pictures and immediately destroys them. The director, Clouzot, captures Picasso's creative process in a fascinating, creative way. If you like art in any way, this is a must see.

Odds Against Tomorrow-1959, Robert Wise, starring Robert Ryan and Harry Belafonte. I don't know, it's just a good flick. Bank robbers, race relations, what more could you want?

The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal-A short, funny, experimental film by a guy named Matt McCormick, who also makes music videos. In this movie, he portrays graffiti removal as art in a very funny, interesting way. An excerpt can be found at this page: http://www.rodeofilmco.com/projects/film_and_video.

War Photographer-A 2001 documentary about a well-known war photographer.

Hopefully, you'll check some of these out. They're all great!

the Misfortunates,
based on a Flemish book which I've been loving for years. Saw the movie yesterday. Great movie.

The actors + director did the naked cycling at the film festival in Cannes. Maybe you've heard of it.
