Planet Earth begins now on Discovery HD. It may be the most visually stunning HD-TV experience yet. Check it out.

The images are incredible, but Sigourney Weaver's narration is getting on my nerves. I wish they'd kept the narrator from the BBC version. Also, I don't like how they feel the need to constantly remind us how impressive it is (always saying "for the first time ever recorded" or "thanks to new technology, unprecedented footage"). It is pretty fucking cool in HD, though.

Damn I wish I could watch this... looks mind-blowing.

So they have Sigourney Weaver narrating and not David Attenborough, eh? That detracts from it a bit. Attenborough's narration is what makes it that much better.

I just watched the full 3 hours and it contained by far the most jaw droppingly beautiful images I have ever seen in my life. I honestly got chills like a thousand times. This is something everyone should be watching.

Sir David Attenborough is a fucking God.

It just seems amazing to me that somebody took the decision somewhere to replace Sir David with the bitch from Ghostbusters.

Hey, at least give her some credit and call her the bitch from Alien...no need to bring Ghostbusters into this  .

But yeah, i hate how everything has to be Americanized for it to be palatable for the American public. David Attenborough's narration was as key to this series' charm as Marty Stouffer's was to Wild America.

You live in Montreal, right? They were showing this on CBC all season until a few weeks ago. It's probably on the Discovery HD channel if you have digital cable or satellite.

Ya, they were showing it in small segments (with Attenborough narrating). I saw a couple of them. Is the CBC version the same as the one on Discovery now? I thought they filmed a new one so that they could do it in HD.

They are all one in the same. As far as i know they didn't do anything to the american version other than replace the narrative. The series was filmed in HD, but obviously couldn't be seen that way on regular cable.

Just watched some more of this tonight. Some of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Half the scenes are so incredible that they don't even look real.

This mini-series is the reason HD was invented. The picture is so perfect and clear that I feel like my television screen is a window and this shit is actually taking place right outside my house. That Ibex fight was fucking badass.
