Another of my favorite authors, the master of science fiction, humanism, dark humor, and everything in between. Wrote many wonderful novels and collections of short stories. My favorites:

Cat's Cradle
Breakfast of Champions
Mother Night
Slaughterhouse Five
Galapagos
Timequake
God Bless You, Dr. Kervorkian

Welcome to the Monkeyhouse
Bagombo Snuff Box

Check him out if you haven't, an author like no other before or since.

Welcome to the Monkey House is a great collection of stories. And you forgot to mention what is, IMO, his best novel "The Sirens of Titan".

My favorite Vonnegut line, from Slaughterhouse-Five: "I have told my sons that they are not under any circumstances to take part in massacres, and that the news of massacres of enemies is not to fill them with satisfaction or glee."

The first one I read was Player Piano. Damn good. Slaughterhouse Five is based on what actually happened in WWII. The firebombing of the German city of Dresden. Vonnegut is the man! There was a 10C newsletter awhile back that Ed listed important events of the year (which I think was 1999) and one of them was Vonnegut at a bookstore, Ed called him the best author in America since WW2. He ain't lying!

This is one of a fw Vonnegut books that I need to read whenever I get the time, it looks like one of his best.

Vonnegut is one of the most underrated American authors. I have been collecting his work for almost 15 years. I can not believe he would be banned from the American high school syllabi. Actually I can.

IMO, he is a definite must read.

Sirens of Titan is his best. I think he is working on another at the moment...I hope he lives long enough to finish it.

How could I have possibly forgotten what may be his most off the wall novel:

SLAPSTICK

Read it if you haven't, it will blow your mind.

I've always wanted to read the one about the bloodthirsty cars. :)

I read Dead Eye Dick this summer, a pretty good read, interesting and funny, but also sad. I am in the middle of Galapagos, this one is way cooler, I can't believe I haven't taken the time to read the rest yet. I'll be picking up some more Vonnegut when that ones finished, and I'll prolly refer to this thread a lot. :) thanks

Breakfast of Champions - The best. I damned near cried at the end, when he's talking about his father and shows his drawn self-portrait.

Cat's Cradle - Fantastic

S-5: The classic. Funniest of what I've read.

Timequake - Too preachy.

There was another one called Blue Somethingoranother, I can't remember the exact title. I didn't finish that one.
