'Happy painting and God Bless, my friend.'

'Let's build us a happy, little cloud that floats around the sky.'

'Little more black, little more blue. And we'll just put that in using little crisscross strokes or--or little X's, whatever you want to call them. Whatever.'

I really think Spike Jonze should make a biopic of Bob Ross' life.

Two reasons to love Sterling, Virginia: Bob Ross and Patton Oswalt.

Who is Patton Oswalt? I think I like him just because of his cool name, but that's not enough.. is it.

I used to watch him everyday on PBS when I was a kid...his voice used to chill this eight year old the "F" out. I loved it...my favorite was when he put a big tree in there and said "shoot I messed it up" .....something like that but he stayed calm...he didn't do the "happy accidents" thing he just said sometimes you mess up no big deal he figured he'd do better next time. He was cool.

The snowy mountains and the old barns... they were the best. Just a few palette knife strokes. Kickass.

The waves are good too.

I love how he painted evergreens. Great techniques all around.

Yeah. I mean I could criticise (he had a small arsenal of techniques which he used repeatedly, more like a decorator than an artist), but it was all about teaching to paint easily. He was unrivalled at it.

I used to watch many of his shows on PBS too. That's what happens when your granny is babysitting you, that's apparently the go-to, cool show. He always put her to sleep.

My dad watched a lot of him too. I learned all about brush strokes and that there tree, happy clouds, all sorts of shit.

PBS should still air the reruns. I don't I ever clicked off the show while channel surfing on a weekend afternoon. He made it look so damn easy & soothing.

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh I see what you did there.

But I don't like it. Bob Ross has no intent other than to teach newcomers how to paint 'stuff' they can be proud to hang in their home. It's a fine intent, but it's not trying to be anything other than generic landscapes.
